I don't know about you folks but I'm a huge retro gamer. Still rock my NES, SNES, Genesis, etc.... I truly believe that there are far more great titles for the older 8 bit and 16 bit systems then on the current stuff. Better quality in gameplay, story, etc... There are a great number of titles out there for the older stuff that even to this day I haven't played all of them. Also the true difference in game design and system performance is shown. Today the PS3 and Xbox 360 all look the same since the majority of big name games are cross platform. But back int he classic days of the 8 bit and 16 bit console wars there were some truly revolutionary and single system titles that weren't on another platform.
At the present moment I am playing my NES, SNES, Genesis, Sega CD and 32X, Saturn, and PSX. Yeah, I have a Xbox 360 and the eariler 128 bit systems like my Dreamcast, PS2, and the original Xbox. But At about that time I just felt that the level of quality that went into games just took a step backwards. I think the golden age of gaming was during the 8 bit and 16 bit console war era. Nintendo vs Sega, Turbpgrafx and SNK NeoGeo sitting out in the distant outfield but still coming up with great titles. Seeing each company trying to out do each other, etc.... Good days gone bye.

I've been there for it all - Pong to present day. I'm not a huge gamer, but I've played enough to appreciate the creativity of the older game market. A lot of what is put out today are just variations on the same theme. I guess the next true, big leap would be to go to 3D/virtual gaming. I'll stick with the older stuff.
I'm still playing Civilization II on my PC. I think II was where that game series peaked.

A taste I never cultivated. I think that during those years I was shooting bullseye, silhouette, and bowling pins.. Don't think I missed much.

Yeah, but you are from one generation up from me, too. When you were shooting all those things, I was in grade school! But, you are right. You didn't miss much. I wish I'd been around for the heyday of silhouette.

For over twenty years the wife and I played Dr. Mario every night on the original Netendo. We would play 2 player and the best of three games and then that was the best of three sets of the best of 3 games. 9 games total if it went that far. Then on friday 5 twenty dollar bills went down on the coffee table and then 5 really heated games went down to supplement our allowances for the week. We gave up when all the games and units were all wore out. My wife surfed the garage sells and second hand stores to keep us in equipment but in time that dried up to. We do the same thing now but now we play Bananagrams.

I only wish that I'd developed my single action affliction 40 years ago... I can only imagine all the classics that my eyes passed over looking for 1911s to build paper punchers on...

From all the purchases and load data over the last year AXE looks like your catching up by the last year rate of purchases and loading data shared. Ps although it has cost more now then 40 years ago.
