I found this Like new gun at a local gun show a week ago. I don't think it had ever been fired. These old smiths are a wook of art. I was wondering if one of you guys could tell me when it was manufactured S# K229XXX Many Thanks Mark

Im at work and dont have my book with me, but if it doesnt have a model # stamped inside, then its pre-1957 atleast. Also, if you dont have it, i HIGHLY recommend the "Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, 3rd Edition", available at fine bookstores everywhere.

1954. Great pickup. Mine are K197xxx, manufactured the year before, K89xxx, manufactured in 1950.
Many happy memories surround my K22s. -- Brian

BTW what purpose does the fifth screw in front of the trigger guard serve. Mark Out... It provides access to the spring and plunger that resets the cylinder bolt. Chris
