That ambi factor comes in handy doesn't it... In my past life as an avionics technician I learned I could do pretty much anything with my left I could with my right. Came in handy in the cockpit of a F4.
The old bullseye shooters tell the tale of world class shooter Frank Green shooting himself in the hand with his 45 Auto... The rabble figured he was done. He returned the next year shooting the same level scores with the other hand. Personally got to see Jim Collins do it when he had elbow trouble in the 80s too.

Started taking a cox 1-cox 2 inhibitor for my arthritis when I was 36. I'm 52 now and I'm on my third brand.
My hand was ok with any amount of recoil a handgun could produce untill two years ago when I broke two bones in my right hand. I just can't take the big stuff anymore. It hurts too bad.
I'm good with 44 mag and 45 colt with heavy bullets at moderate velosities(up to about 1200 fps), but the heavy bullet 454 days are over for me. Bill

Aleve can be very useful, but I have an odd suggestion or two as well, particularly if you live in colder climes.
First, wear gloves when ever possible while outside in the winter. I know plenty of folks who don't cover their hands, and sincerely believe that practice has abetted their arthritis. There appear to be two camps of "men" in this world, those who wear gloves and those who "man up" and do not. All I can write is keep your booger hooks warm! It helps!
Now that isn't too odd but this next suggestion might be.
There are kits you can buy over the internet (and possibly at large drugstores) that consist of a electric pot meant to melt wax and hold it at a specific temperature range. You dip the offending paw's digits in the wax, which stings a bit but it is easily tolerable. The heat sinks deep into the joint, affording some theraputic relief. Costs a lot less than a new .44 Special too! At this point it can't hurt (well, it does, but it certainly helps!).

Daughter married a boy from Tenn. a few years ago, entered a strange contraption into our family via his family, a bag filled with RICE, size depends on your hand, sewn closed both ends, you put it into the microwave for about 2-3 minutes depending on your ability to handle heat, wrap it around your offending hand and relax in front of the TV or read or whatever, couple times a week or when the pain is distracting, has helped me, costs almost nothing. I have tried the "HOT WAX" method and it works but is somewhat tedious to prepare vs the RICE BAG.

Sounds like a great idea, because yeah, the wax method while effective is a bit messy and time consuming. And if it doesn't work for you, well heck, just eat the rice!

Thats the funny part of it all, it's reusable as long as you keep it dry, we've had at least two around the house for about 3 years and they are in constant use.
