I was in the safe last night getting some sixguns out for the range today and there toward the bottom was a little blue cloth bag that I have not thought about for a long time,I remember my mom making it to hold my first handgun,a H&R 929,it brought back a lot of memorys, that little gun aint real pretty compared to my Smiths,Kimbers and Rugers but it was my constant companion for a long time,It has taken more game than all my others combined and its the only one that ever had to be pulled on another human, but whats so special about it is the memory of my dad taking me to the local hardware store Christmas 36 yrs ago and buying it for me,dad wasnt a gun person but he owned several over the years most bought on impulse and never used except by me,dad passed away in August and taking that gun to the range brought back a lot of memorys of him,I hope to someday pass it down to my nephew and maybe he will enjoy it as much as I have.I am sure we all have guns that are special only to us.Hope You All Have A Safe And Happy Holiday.

banjopkr cherish those memories. I totally refinished a Stevens Model 94F 12 Gauge that my mother bought used for me when I was 12 years old. WOW how 37 years have flown by. The shotgun saved me many times deep in the woods from snakes, black bear, bobcats etc I went to shoot the shotgun a few days after finishing it and it brought back memories how hard it kicks.
Take every breath that God gives you for what it is worth!

I have a Winchester Model 67-A that my parents gave me on my 12th birthday over half a century ago. Once a year I go out and shoot 22LR single shot style and the old Winchester is still accurate and trustworthy.
Appreciate your thread.

banjopkr....Your thread made me pull out an old .22 cal Springfield Mod 84C (made by Stevens) from the back of the safe. It belonged to my grandfather and was used mostly for the head shot when butchering hogs on the farm. I got my hands on it at the age of 13...50 years ago...and spent many hours wandering the woods with that .22. I always bought .22 "longs" because I was convinced that the lighter bullet in the "long rifle" case gave quicker kills on squirrels.....

VERY cool. My first handgun was a 9-shot H&R 22. I remember well going to the local Sheriff's Department auction on the town square when I was eight years old with my dad, and buying that H&R for the princely sum of $7. I put the cash in the deputy's hand and walked away with my prize - those were the days! I wish I still had that H&R, I can't even remember how and when it got away.

I never had any guns growing up, actually bought my first rifle at 19 and my first handgun at 21. I'd always been sad when I read these types of stories as my guns really don't have much history and I felt the poorer for it.
Well, last year at Christmas my dad gave me his old Remington 514 single shot from when he was a kid. My Grandfather won it in a poker game and gave it to him at 14. It was very neglected and hadn't been fired in over fifty years, but I got her cleaned up and took him to the range and we shot the heck out of that little gun. I now have a gun with some family history and dearly love it.

Twenty years from now those guns you got will have a history of their own. The more you use them the better you will like them, soon you'll be looking back to when you took such & such gun to this place & carried it for the weekend. That small scratch in the stock is from where you leaned up against that rock to watch the deer (other animals) while they couldn't see you. Enjoy memories will come. Frank
