Saw a '300 Caribou' listed in the brass section at Midway. What is it? My Google search turned up nothing.

www.ammo-one.com/wc300Caribou.html From the basic description this is extremely similar to the old .300 ICL Grizzly. This .300 ICL Grizzly was developed about 50 years ago. It is like the 300 improved Ackley, Weatherby, Mashburn, Apex Super and others. And like these older versions this would be an over bore capacity cartridge that is not very efficient and at the same time eats barrels alive. The following would be estimated velocities with a 28 inch barrel. 150 grain and 4350 powder at 3590 fps. 180 grain and 4350 powder at 3300 to 3460 fps. 220 Grain and 4350 powder at 3200 fps. Any differences and gains over the old 300 H&H would be hard to demonstrate. However this 300 Caribou may give longer case life for the reloader. From Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ICL_cartridges ICL cartridges (ICL stands for Increased Case Load) are rare hunting wildcat cartridges developed by Arnold & Vern Juenke,[2] gunsmiths who owned Saturn Gun Works in Reno, Nevada. ICL cartridges are wildcats based on conventional cases in use at the time. They feature a 45 degree shoulder[3] and the sides are straightened out compared to the parent cartridge. Most of the cartridges are considered improved cartridges since they simply create more powder space while maintaining the same caliber as the parent cartridge. Most of the line of cartridges carries an animal name in addition to a numeric designation. It is one of the most complete lines of wildcats, having a large number of cartridges with a variety of calibers.[4] Quality Cartridge is the only manufacturer making new brass cases correctly headstamped for many ICL cartridges.[5]

Doesn't look like it does much over the 300 Weatherby, but I like the shoulder....slick looking case. -Lee www.singleactions.com
