Mine was back in maybe the late '80's, on a backpacking trip. Three of us were packing in the 'Gheny forest of Penn., Forest co.. We were hiking up a most beautiful valley, remote for that area. Remote as in this valley is where they dump/release "bad bears" that are live trapped from camp grounds or dumps etc.. I was packing my SBH.. Bill lokks down into the creek bed below us, and on a sand bar spots a frog. He says, betcha can't hit that frog ! So I drew and fired rigth quick, and a geyser of mud and water fly skyward, as Bob yells, HA , Ya missed ! The last thing to fall to the ground, was the frog, white belly up. Told Bob, you get to fetch it. Bob fetched it back, gotta admit he fetches to hand better than most of the bird dogs I've had. Well, the frog had a "C" shaped, half bullet sized groove cut across the top of his head. I know, story not about a big buck, or the shot that one me a competition, still its my favorite shot. Yours ? steve b

Nothing spectacular, but my most memorable happened in 1991. My dad had just built his first 50 BMG bolt action and one of his friends donated an old Ford 360 V8 that was seized....well, you know what happened next. So my first shot with a 50 was on an engine and I'll never forget the result. The 750 grain Speer punched a hole through it sideways and sent chucks of engine casting over a 10 yard span. I've been hooked on those big rifles ever since, -Lee www.singleactions.com

Maybe this one. Nothing spectacular, 25-30 yards, but just one of those perfect shots where the bullet lands exactly where you intended it to.

Okay, seriously. I don't recall my first handgun shooting, but it came at an early age. But my favorite shot memory happen when I was 15 years old, when my Dad handed me his Mdl 25-5 and told me how to do "double-taps". After a cylinder full with pretty decent result, he pulled a Milt Sparks rig out of the '72 Bronco and told me to try it on. He shook my hand and called me a "Handgunner", which I considered as high praise.
He gave me the Bronco when I turned 17 and we fixed it up together.
My son now carries the 25-5 in a Rick Gittlein-carved Simply Rugged pancake (which he earned both just prior to our horseback elk hunt last year) & the '72 Bronco has now become our project together.
I like to think that someday, he'll pass on the same 25-5 and the same '72 Bronco to his son.
Men need traditions to bind the generations.

Mine was at the range a fellow next to me posted a wood stake with a 3" to 4" balloon on it out at 80 yards. This guy unloaded his muzzle loader rifle about a dozen times and never hit it and started packing up to go home. He said you can shoot at my balloon I'm just going to leave it there. I was there shooting my AR15 and my Sig 226 DAK in 9mm. When he said it I was standing at the bench loading the AR15 magazines. I was feeling kind of cocky that day and picked up my 226 loaded a magazine into it, stood standing and took a bead on the balloon with the X S Big Dot sights and took out the balloon with the first shot. You wouldnt believe the look on this poor guy's and was I sure glad he only had one balloon down range.

My grandfather bought me a HG Schmidt 22 single action [scout copy] when I was 9. Put 3yrs of soda pop bottle collecting through that thing. One evening while shooting carp down at the river, a top knot quail walked into the trail 20-30 feet ahead and on the rise, flying straight away, I took him south port to craw. Took him back to camp, told the story straight, and I've been paying the price ever since.

Killed a running jackrabbit and maybe 50 yards with one shot from a Colt Anaconda .44 mag years ago. A crow flew up from a water hole I walked up on and I drew a ruger .22 pistol from the holster and fired one shot killing it in flight. I had a witness on that one!! Both were super lucky shots and I remember them well.
