Getting ready to buy a very nice stainless Dragoon w/ a 4 5/8in. barrel. I have not seen a short barrel model before but know they were cataloged. How unusual are they? Searched the net and found 2 or 3 pictures but no mention other than that. Saw many 7.5's and 5in. though.
Any guesses on production numbers?
BTW- I love these guns, excellent quality, durability and accuracy. This will be my third.

Fixed sights or adjustable? I have one of the "Deputy Model" fixed-sight guns, high-polish blue with gold hammer & trigger. It's cool, and shoots very well.

Short barreled Virginians aren't as common as the 5.5" or 7.5" version. The fixed sight Deputy is even less common. Definitely post pictures once you get it. -Lee www.singleactions.com

Thanks Lee, I already have it downloaded.
Boge, it's an adjustable sight model.
Action it smoooooth and cylinder lockup is tighter than a bank vault. Pictures will be posted as soon as the deal is closed this afternoon.

I wouldn't go so far as to say a Hawes Chief Marshal is a good looking sixgun. I bought my 6" example from a pawn shop in 1985 or so for $125.00. I thought it would be a good hiking gun since it was already holster worn and well used. The main spring broke when I took it on a 10 day trip as my only armament, and it took a long time to find a replacement. I finally found one when I bought a copy of the Numrich Arms catalog. I sold it not long after I fixed it. The rear sight was a little shallow, and the notch didn't seem quite wide enough. It did have a smooth action and a very light trigger. Oh yeah, I had to take it to a gunsmith when I started to get pushoff problems, where the hammer would fall by pushing on it. It seemed to be fine, but still very light after a gunsmith recut the hammer notches.

To the contrary, your gun is every bit as cool and classy.
And, I highly suspect that at some time in the past it received the very same barrel treatment as did mine.

Can't say I've seen many short Virginians but I like the look.
