But it does give top velocity and is kinda fun. Seriously I get 2,600 fps from a 200 gr. Hornady .338 slug from a 14" + 2" brake barrel. This is actually my LR hunting handgun but I fitted (Legally) a Choate Encore M4 buttstock to it for fun and to let my friend Randy shoot it. You can feel a wave of heat from the flash. Recoil is almost zilch. Took a Blackbuck at the Y-O with this combo as a handgun in 2009. Thought you guys would laugh. But I confess IMR 3031 or 4064 are less dramatic and about as fast. The case is the .405 Win. necked to .338, kind of a rimmed .338-06, almost.

I'm loading Gary's standard loading data in my 15 inch (including the brake) 405 Winchester based Reeder TC barrels.. Don't have pictures but I definitely feel a wave of heat... I'm thinking that a lot of it is the very effect brake that Gary installs..

That fireball is a bit of a stunt. With more efficient IMR 3031 or 4064 there is not nearly as big a display. I even have a great 2400 load that shoots a 220 gr. cast GC at about 1500 fps. It is the .405 Win. with it's lovely rim necked to .338". The barrel I ordered is 14" + a 2" muzzle brake that does very effectively reduce felt recoil. I installed a Choate M4 stock on the Encore to make it a legal carbine. The multiple position stops on the length of pull allow my kids to give it a try. Works for me too with heavy clothing. I ended up going with Weaver Grand Slam lever scope rings. That allows me to switch from handgun scope/grip to rifle type and not be that far off on zero. My only critique is a rig like that although small is heavy at about 8 lbs. * This barrel is a .50AK necked to .430" (.440 GNR) and is more than a handful. About 200 fps over a .444 Marlin. I took it on an AK bear hunt that I came home empty handed. But it was conforting as we were treed by Grizzlys twice and a Mommy Blackie once. My .338 GNR barrel is the same length but a "tapered heavy" rather than a Heavy Bull like this.
