after having the rifle for several months, i hadn't had the chance to shoot it for groups yet until two days ago and this was what it shot. charles gatlin may be a low down dirty rotten scoundrel but he sure does build a good cottonfield rifle. i am trying to document and count every shot down the barrel and have all but one or two documented. we'll see how long the barrel lasts.

Hey, I'm building a custom 264 right now. Can you give us specifics on your rifle and what load produced such an outstanding group?

rifle is a ruger m77 with tang safety and the load was cold with ramshot magnum a 129 hornady inerlock and a cci 250 primer. not sure what max is but are working on the load some more. i will get more info as we go along with the rifle. the plan is to use the nosler 140 accubond and take advantage of the ridiculously high bc to do most of the grunt work. that group was fired with unfired new brass and should get better with once fired brass. who is building your 264 by the way?

Groo here My 264 did not like long[boattail] rounds.. flatbase shot like a house afire.. check your twist , mine was a 9/1.. Also try Fed 215 primers..

I shoot a lot of 264 Win Mag and settled on Berger 140 grain VLD's over a full case of Retumbo. Great powder that isn't as temp sensitive as other slow burners. Performance is there too with 140s going right at 3,200 from a 26" tube. -Lee www.singleactions.com

Hello fellers. flexjr told me he started a thread about his new rifle. I will vouch for the rifle being a monster. We are still working on the load and will be glad to share the data of the final load. I have worked up loads and loaded ammo for several of the .264s built by Gartlin. I haven't seen one that wouldn't keep 3 shots under 1/2" at 100 yards. They all shoot very good. Still to try are the same bullets with H4831SC and RL22. The 140gr Accubonds will probably be launched with IMR7828 or Ramshot Magnum. flexjr or I will try to post pics of this rifle in the next few days. reflex264

[quote author=markbo board=rifles thread=4779 post=46133 Why? You are not satisfied with that group? [/quote] the group was good, but the load was way to slow for the rifle. sometimes i hate that chronograph
