LINKS TO PICTURES IN MY 10/20/10 POST BELOW. Check them out
As some of you know I'm a retired FFL here in Indiana and I moonlight as an appraiser for a small auction house in Evansville.
Today an older gentleman came in with several guns for us to sell. There was a 1849 Colt Pocket model, a couple 1860 Armys, a 1878 Lightening, 3 US Springfield Trapdoor Rifles and
a Colt 1873 SAA pinch frame, serial number 44 (yes, two digits.......44) From my quick checking this SAA predates the first commercial release by 5 guns (first commercial shipment started with serial number 49 according to available info.)
Anyone wishing pics please just ask and send me your email address as I cannot figure out how to post pictures here. Techno deficient I guess.

Sent pictures and an inquiry to Colt for verification and any history. Something just isn't quite right with the frame markings but the barrel rollmark seems good. And all the other guns are good to go. But.....

It's a fake. A very good one, but a fake. Sorry for wasting the space and time. Lee, if you read this go ahead and post the pictures. I would like to figure out this things origins.

There are more fake pinched frame guns than real out there. I'm not surprised, but am bummed with you. I once dealt with an estate that had a very rare configuration Sheriff's Model in it. You guessed it - fake! I was upset.

Definitely not a pinched frame gun. Definitely not a Colt. The fonts, the way the gun is marked, the dimensions of parts, etc. are incorrect. If I had to guess, I'd guess a Mexican copy.
