Nice. I've got a bare-bones Springfield Armory GI that i'd like to have some work done to it, but when I add up what i want, it seems crazy to put $1200 into a $500 pistol. I've also got a mid-70's Colt series 70 in Nickel, and a 1943 Remington Rand.

Man that is a fine snag and a great looking custom 1911. You don't have to spend $3k on a 1911 to have a "CUSTOM". From a casual glance it appears that the parts were selected thoughtfully and professional quality installed. It looks mostly performance enhancing parts were added and not "trendy" crap.
I like it.

That's nice, you can never have too many 1911's.
Are the CT grips about the same thickness as factory? How do you like them?

These are their older model grips. They don't even make them anymore. The model is LG201. The grip thickness is about the same as some grips I'd see on 1911s. Not thick at all. Pretty comfortable actually.

Thanks for the reply.
I always wonder how CT grips will compare to standard grips on different models. I have a set on one of my SP101's and they are suprisingly comfortable even for large hands.

Pat, you can make them nice without spending a fortune if you dont have to pay someone else to do it. Here are a couple SA GI's my son did for old partners of mine. The base guns were in the $400 range and no more than $200 was spent on either of them.

What has been done to those guns Gary? My son has a Springfield GI and those stock sights could stand improving. I like the sights he chose on the two above.

The rears are Yost Bonitz professional grade. I am not sure they are still making them but I think John Harrison was going to start. But they are basic Novak cut. Heinie, Novak, and most of the others make a Novak cut rear. At one time George Smith from EGW was ebaying novak machining of your slide for about $40. We bought a small mill and do it ourself now. The front sight's are dovetailed.
The easiest upgrade from GI style sights is a larger profile set like the old King Tappan, Behlert, or even the Milletts. Front stakes in. Rear uses existing dovetail. You just have to do some minor fitting on the sight.

Groo here 1911's and glocks are plug and plays for the most part.. The base gun is so good that just a few parts swaps are a that are needed to make it your own. And yes I have some customs and high end ones that shoot great but seem to go back to a standard alu frame commander for most 1911 carry..

The top gun in addition to the sights has bar stock EGW hammer & sear and and re-profiled Ed Brown thumb safety. Frame horns radiused to .220 and a Smith and Alexander grip safety was installed. Greider long Trigger and a steel serrated MSH to get rid of the ILS. It was hand polished and hot blued. Lots of hand work blending the MSH with the frame, blending the grip safety and re-profiling the thumb safety.
Bottom gun belongs to an old partner from the homicide unit and tactical unit. He is on the USMS fugitive task force now and wanted a plain jane fighting pistol along the lines of the USMC MEU-SOC pistols. Same basics as the above with the exception of Greider 3 hole long trigger, Ed Brown thumb safety (stock profile) CMC grip safety and checkered MSH. He wanted the extended side stop and I had plenty of takeoffs (hate them) so one was reprofiled a bit and installed. 2 Tone KG gun cote with pachmayrs.
