Patricks new book " 1911 the first 100 years" just came out. Great book but I am biased as it has several of my Behlert customs featured. He is a much better photographer than I!! Amazon has it.

I picked the book up yesterday. I hadn’t started reading it yet. I just thumbed though it. It looks good. I learned stuff just looking at the photos.

Surely looks cheap enough.... Inspired me to look for Hallock's .45 Auto HandBook. With all the 1911 fans I'd have never thought that book would go out of print. Glad I have a copy.

I admire anyone who has the gumption to write an illustrated book on Firearms! All of us "gun nuts" will devour any/all we can find.
Now, one small comment..... I have a copy of Sweeney's Ruger Pistols and Revolvers and it possesses an extraordinary number of blatant errors. I was overwhelmed by what I saw....
I certainly hope the "slab side" book is more accurate.
JMHO,
Carl

I GOT A COPY OF HIS RUGER BOOK WHEN IT FIRST CAME OUT AND SENT THE PUBLISHER/EDITOR A LONG LIST OF BLATANT ERRORS. NEVER HEARD BACK FROM THEM
I certainly hope the "slab side" book is more accurate.
THEREIN LIES THE PROBLEM. I JUST FINISHED HIS 1911 BOOK AND NOT SURE WHAT I CAN TRUST.

I enjoyed it. I guess it is more of a coffee table book than a historical reference guide.
Axe, Ken Hallock was from Midwest City about 10 miles from here. I used to visit with him at all the local gun shows until his passing a few years ago. He used to have NM slides complete sights for $150. Bought a couple from him for projects.

I remember Ken Hallock. I liked talking with him at the Ft. Worth Gun Show. He did not mind talking to a young green gun nut that could only afford a surplus systma 27 1911. I still have two of his books. One on building the 1911 is a prized book. I have used it to build 4 or 5 1911's. Sorry to hear he has passed away.

I certainly agree, JT. There are WAY TOO MANY errors. I think the worst is a picture caption. It states something about Ruger's Vaquero but the guns in the image are SAA's! I will admit some of the stuff in the book is very interesting, but my overall opinion is definitely a "Thumbs Down". Carl
