I have Rugers not Colts. I have 3 Birds Head 45s with 3.75" barrels, 2 NVs with 4 5/8" barrels and one 4 5/8 SBH. I wish they were all 4" as that is the legal length to hunt in CA. The 3.75" would look about the same at 4" and I don't think the extra 5/8" on the other guns adds that much to velocity over a 4" gun. If the NV had 4" barrels they would be more like the FA 97 in size (not quality). Maybe I could get the NVs made into custom 5 shooters with 4" barrels. Bowen use to show a 5 shot 50 cal G.I. on his website done on a NV I'm not sure but I think Ashley Emerson ended up with it. A friend and I are just going into the final stages of our first caliber conversions and want to do 5 shot 50 calibers next. I think mine is going to be a 50 GI on a NV. Cant afford one of those bottom feeder litter guns for $3500.00 to shoot that caliber in.

Gotta say I like them all. 4 3/4" feels about best in my hand - right there! For cowboy action shooting and general good looks, 7 1/2" is just right. My field carry SAA is a New Frontier 5 1/2".

I have a Clements Custom Heavy 5 shot. I told him to make the barrel a comfortable but usable length. I also had the gold bar site put on it. The barrel came out to 5.25" long. It does have a larger than normal cylinder in it but it balances well and is scary accurate.
