What is your favorite barrel length fo a Colt SAA chambered for 45 Colt? I know they all have qualities that are best for different things but when you open that safe and just want to admire your collection which one do you grab?

Need to qualify my vote with the fact that I don't do the Colt SAA. I only do the Colt New Frontier. Got to have an adjustable rear sight for me... The 4 3/4 barrel 45 Colt NF just looks right!

Always felt the 4 3/4" balanced the best in my hand.

I really like the 4 3/4 SAA, but my New Frontier .44 Spl. has a 5 1/2, and I think that's just right.

4 3/4" in a 45 colt fullsize frame , otherwise it should be in balence to the size of the gun...

4-3/4" it's the easiest to pack all day, the 7-1/2" really hangs on the target well though. Frank

I'm odd man out here . . . but then I carry A-IWB. And it's (obviously) not a Colt . . .

Never owned a SAA I liked, but every other single actino I ever owned (except 1) was a 4 3/4 so I guess that qualifies me to post an opinion

5 1/2 for me but the 4 3/4 is a VERY close second.

4 3/4" by far. Funny though, I find myself getting more and more enamored with the 7 1/2". I've been debating that as my next purchase. I don't know why I can't seem to warm to the 5 1/2. I think I must be the only sixgunner who feels that way. I'm really hoping that Lipsey brings out the 7 1/2" .44spl!

5.5" for me, though I think I may buy my first 4 3/4" in the new Lipseys .44 Spl! :-D

Rep1954, I really enjoy shooting the 7-1/2, but I went with what is the easier to pack all day & therefore the least likely to be left at home when going afield. The 4-3/4" by far gets more use by me. Frank

I have Rugers not Colts. I have 3 Birds Head 45s with 3.75" barrels, 2 NVs with 4 5/8" barrels and one 4 5/8 SBH. I wish they were all 4" as that is the legal length to hunt in CA. The 3.75" would look about the same at 4" and I don't think the extra 5/8" on the other guns adds that much to velocity over a 4" gun. If the NV had 4" barrels they would be more like the FA 97 in size (not quality). Maybe I could get the NVs made into custom 5 shooters with 4" barrels.
