In my pursuit of a semiauto woods gun I ran across Double Tap's offering of a 200 gr WFNGC in both the 40 S&W and 10mm. They also have a 230 gr WFNGC in 10mm. Bullets are also for sale in addition to ammo. Double Tap bought Coal Creek Casting 2 years ago and they cast their own bullets. Their bullets have a BHN of 21. The bullets have a .32 inch meplat, which is larger than any commercial 45 ACP bullets or ammo. You would have to handload a Beartooth 255 gr WFN in the 45 ACP to get a larger meplat (.36 inch). The published velocities for the G23 and G27 are 1050 and 1009 fps mv respectively. The 200 gr 10mm has a mv of 1240 fps mv and the 230 gr is 1075 fps out of a G29. For a full sized Glock 20 the mv(s) are 1300 fps and 1120 fps respectively for the 200 gr and 230 gr WFNGC. Now my G23 and G27 are viable choices for camp/trail guns. The G27 has a 9 round mag and the 23 has a 10 round mag (max of 10 rounds in CA). These will be plenty good for CA. If I lived in AK I would get a G20 and load them with the 230 gr. WFNGCs at 1300 fps. They don't equal my 45 Colt Ruger Vaqueros in power but I still like that I have 10 rounds(G27) and 11 rounds(G23) at my disposal as fast as I can pull the trigger. Not bad for lightweight Tupperware guns. I thought this info might be of interest to those of you own a 40 S&W or 10mm semiauto but didn't think it was powerful enough for a camping/trail gun.

A viable option, comfortable to carry. I carry a G23, though mostly it leaves the house with a 9mm Strom Lake Barrel in place, for CCW. I do make my guns take turns and place nice though. This means Glocks/Kahrs for mostly two legged varmints, and Rugers(S.A.'s) for mostly 4 legged varmint scenarios. Due to that larger meplat, please test for relaible feeding quite thouroughly before trusting. steve b

Lots of reports over on AR15.COM of folks not getting the claimed velocity from Double Tap ammo. 10mm might be the exception as it's DT's bread and butter.
I would look at Buffalo Bore ammo as an alternative.

Even if the velocities are off by 100 fps a 200gr or 230 gr bullet with a .32" meplat at even 900 fps is going to get the recipient's attention. DT bases their velocities on actual weapons as does BB but maybe they have a generous chronograph. Who knows? Its kind of like having 2 watches, you're never really sure what time it is. By the way, I asked the DT in an e-mail if they used Beartooth bullets as that was another rumor floating around. I was informed by Mike McNett at DT that they bought Coal Creek Casting 2 years ago and make their own bullets. So the Beartooth rumor can be laid to rest. They also offer some of their bullets for sale so if one wants to load their own they have that option. I will need an aftermarket barrel for reloading as I hear the generous chambers of Glock barrels are hard on brass. If one is just going to shoot factory ammo then the Glock barrel is ok with their hardcast (BHN 21) lead bullets. BB states the same thing regarding their hardcast bullets being ok in Glock barrels.
