I was looking at compact 1911s today . The pusher man showed me a new full size Rem 1911 . It looked like a very well made pistol . Anybody bought one of the new ones yet?

Havent handled one but I dont hear much good about them. Here is a thread from over at the ASLTW forum that discusses them. I havent seen anything that would make me want one. The price point doesnt seem to offer any advantage over the SA's or a nice used Colt (my preference). www.louderthanwords.us/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=8386

Thanks Gary . I will have to take a closer look .There price was $525 . I wonder if the newest ones are being built a little better . The one I looked at had no visible casting or machine marks and was very tight . The finish was much nicer than the Springfield . I guess I better do a lot more research before I caugh up my money . I had about decided on a Springfield GI or a compact RI .

IMO the Springer GI is the best bargain in a 1911. I try not to be a 1911 snob but if you go to any of the major 1911 smiths website you will see they only work on Colt, SA, Caspian and the occasional Kimber. I have a couple Caspians, 1 SA 10mm, and a handful of Colts. $525 gets you in the range of a new SA GI and close to a used Colt.

I think they are after the Graybeards who were exposed to Remington Rand 1911s way back when... Those old dudes are the ones with all the $$$s too... Yeah, I held one or two.. However I did take note that my issue bullseye guns marked AFPG were ALL built on Colts...
+1 on the Springfield recommendation. Good solid stuff. Even in the decades I was a true 1911 snob my gun builders said pre series 80 Colt or Springfield only...

Yes , you guys are right . I really checked them out closely . The Springfield GI seems the way for me to go . Kimber price is sick and my friends is the pickiest pistol for ammo I have ever seen . I have had a few .45acp but never a 1911 . I think I will go with the Springfield .
