Title says it all. Optics seems to change weekly with new and different models coming out. What optic do you prefer for big game hunting on a revolver?

I am a big fan of the open reflex sights, but i have been having this feeling lately that if im going to “ruin” (only an opinion)the balance or aesthetics of the gun, i might as well go all out to a scope or ultradot. I just cant warm up to scopes, but The ultradot is cats rear end for affordable big game optic as far as im concerned.

I AM 81 NOW BUT FOR MANY YEARS I HAVE THOUGHT THAT: 2X IS NOT ENUFF AS YOU GET CLOSER TO 100 YARDS AND BEYOND AND 4X CAN BE TOO MUCH AT CLOSER DISTANCES OR IF SHOOTING OFF HAND, SO I PREFER VARIABLE POWER PISTOL SCOPES. THE LEUPOLD's ARE REPORTED TO BE EXCELLENT, AS WELL AS OTHER BRANDS, BUT MY MOST USED ARE THE 2X-6X VARIABLES THAT WERE MADE BY B&L/BUSHNELL.
RED DOTS JUST DON'T WORK FOR ME PAST 50-60 YARDS.

I prefer a low powered variable for stand hunting early and late, as they gather more light and extend shooting time, like this Weaver 2-6x. But they are too heavy for good offhand shooting, so I prefer an UltraDot 30 for still hunting and stalking, as they only add about 5 oz.

Variables or ultra Dots on all my hunting guns. Would like to try a reflex on one with a 2-3 min dot because of its size, as even the ultra dot throws the balance off a bit.

Most of my hunts I use open sights. If using an optic it is a reflex sight, most often a Leupold DP Pro. Also have some Vortex Defenders and they seem to be very good, I just haven’t used them as much as the DP. Not a fan of scoped handguns.

I’ve got a pretty even mix of 1x red dots and magnified optics. Much depends on the terrain and the game I’m hunting. Open terrain, medium game and 100 yds or less a red dot works for me, although a magnified optic works also. Tight cover, makes a magnified optic better for me by seeing limbs and leaves in the way. Shots beyond 100 a magnified optic. Varmints, a magnified optic offers more precision for me.

Either an UltraDot or a fixed 2x. I've been using scopes on pistols for years so it's pretty natural by now. The fixed 3x's are also a pretty nice compromise.

Started out with Fastfires with a 3 MOA dot on a semi auto .22. Then bought one with a 8 MOA dot for a centerfire revolver. My latest purchase was a Holoson 407C with a 2 MOA green dot that will go on my S&W M&P 22 mag. Next, I want to try a sight with a 6 to 8 MOA green dot for a few of my big bore revolvers. The larger dots are easier for me to acquire and plenty accurate as 99% of my shooting is under 50 yards.

I only hunt deer & like to keep my shots under 75 yards. The Trijicon SRO is my favorite. I also like my Holosuns but the dots can be hard to find quickly. I find scopes generally cumbersome.
