Anyone have first hand recommendation for a gunsmith that does custom work on mod. '71's? I'm aware of Turnbull and Ben Forkin.
Thanks.

Turnbull repaired my model 71. It would drop from the half cocked position when the trigger was pulled. They did a nice job in a timely fashion.

You might check with the cowboy action guys, a lot of the ones around here are shooting 71s but they seem to be shooting them as they come around here

They allow them for some of the side matches around here, but I don't think they're officialy sanctioned for anything

I'm packing the beater '71 to ship to Ben Forkin next week. He'll rebarrel to .450 Alaskan, reblue, etc. Be a year 'til I see it again. Guess it'll give me something to look forward to.......

Steve Young at www.stevesgunz.com has worked on my M71. He is a Winchester M92 specialist, and a 92 is nothing more than a mini 86, and an 86 is nothing more than a crude 71. Steve does good work at an honest price.

squeaker, I know Lee. I've seen him at the gunshows for years. Whenever I buy a gun that needs some screws or something, I go ask Lee if he has what I'm looking for. He usually tells me to come back later because he knows he has what I need, he knows where it is, but he hasn't unpacked that particular box yet. What does he charge to convert a Model 71 to 450 Alaskan or 50 Alaskan?
