The gun was sent back to Ruger by the original owner as a standard Blackhawk with a 45acp cylinder.
There it was fitted with two new, unfluted 44 mag cylinders. That is the only way that he could acquire new cylinders, since they would not sell them to him unless they were factory fitted.
With those in hand, he gave the gun to Lee Baker to complete the project; which included the rechambering of both, one to 45 Colt caliber and the other to AutoRim.
So, in essence, Ruger unwittingly had much to do with the project.
And yeah, I agree, a Bisley hammer would look nice, but I doubt if any Old Model Bisley hammers were being custom produced back then. Even a Super Blackhawk hammer would have been preferable, maybe even still. That, my not so humble opinion.

I'm sure glad I didn't see that before it sold.

No way would Ruger have fit .44Mag cylinders to a .45 Blackhawk. Ruger only returns guns to factory original condition, with the occasional report of changes in barrel length or the addition of convertible cylinders. I'm sorry but the original owner is mistaken.

I've had quite a few revolvers at Ruger for service, etc. over the years. I simply CANNOT believe the story presented here. Many gun parts houses acquire unfluted Super cylinders. (Shucks, I've purchase a cylinder or two over the years.) There's just no way Ruger would have supplied .44 cal. cylinders to be fitted to a .45. Now, perhaps, one chance in a zillion, one of the previous owners was an employee.......but, the presence of the Auto Rim cylinder definitely rules out "Factory" work.
Just my not so humble opinion.

Agreed. The story doesn't make sense at all. Now I wish I hadn't been a party to it.
