Hi Guys!!
Thought I would drop in and introduce myself as I am a new member. I have been lurking here for quite some time and am a long time fan of Mr. Taffin as well as other big bore enthusiasts.
I have always had a love affair with single actions and the big bores in particular, and have owned many Rugers over the years, but today I get to go pick up my first REALLY NICE big bore revolver. Found a used 6" Freedom Arms 83 in excellent shape at a local shop. The price was right so I put a deposit on it and am on my way to pick it up in just a few minutes!!!
So excited I haven't slept all night!!

well, lets see if this works... The pics were taken with my phone so not the best quality. Guess I will have to save up some pennies for a nice digital SLR now... Justin

Thanks, Lee!! I am pretty excited about it. This is my first FA and I have wanted one for a long time!! To make a short story long...I walked into the local shop, where I used to work and thus am well known, and my buddy Steve immediately brought this out to show me, as he knows my tastes well. It is a used gun with very little evidence of having been shot, and was able to pick it up for $1500. It is currently wearing the express sights. Not sure if those will stay in place or not. Will get it out for a few range sessions once I get brass in hand and do some load development before I decide. If anyone has some pet recipes for cast bullet loads that they would like to share, it would be much appreciated. Im not looking for elephant tumblers right away but more along the lines of a 300-365 grain pill at moderate velocity. A hot 45Colt equivalent or a bit more. I will experiment with the wrist breakers later. While I have and do own several Rugers in 44 and 45, this is my first 454, although I have shot them. I am thinking this will be the ideal packin pistol if I ever get the time to fly the Supercub up to Alaska. Aside from that, I have just REALLY wanted and FA for far too long. Justin

Even with the phone/camera pics, you can tell that's a sweet 454. Love the grips and the express sights.

Not sure about the express sights yet. Have never tried them on a handgun so will be a new experience. If I can ring my 24" gong from 200 yrds I will keep em if not they may go away. Will hopefully get to try it this weekend.
You guys will get a full report if I do. And thanks to everyone for the warm welcome!

Welcome to the forum. The crew is pretty easy to get along with....heck, they put up with me.
There is a very short list of things that really get me heart going. Single actions and single piston planes are two of them. Thanks for sharing both.
