I have a flattop bisley in 44 spec. Would like to get an aluminum xr3red frame to save weight. Looking for that perfect packing pistol. I just never warmed up to a bisley grip. I know many of you are rolling your eyes about now But it’s what want. Any sources for for the grip frame out there or would a standard xr3red fit

A standard xr3-red will fit. If you like the bisley spurred hammer you will need to obviously modify the lower hump and you may need to modify the trigger opening on the grip frame if you want to keep the bisley trigger.
Note, there may be some difference in the upper ear height between the standard grip frame and the bisley grip frame as well. I believe Ruger made some mini changes in that part of the gun but since I am not a new model type of guy, I can not verify this.

I'm no help but I'd ask Ronnie Wells. Paging RDW

I replaced the steel XR3 on my mid-frame flattop with a standard aluminum XR3-Red. The mid-frames, as already mentioned, have a taller frame lug so the ears on the grip frame have to be .600" tall vs. the .540-.550-ish ears on older frames - unless you can live with an unsightly .050" gap at the top of the frame lugs.

I should have one as soon as Ronnie gets through with my .41 mag. When I talked to him last week he indicated that it wouldn’t be long before he finished with it.

I swap them out all the time just because…. Some do have taller ears than others..
