Optics on hunting handgun

Alaska Arms rings on a Ruger Hunter model is the most economical solution, but you're limited to the Hunter and the rig gets kind of heavy with steel rings, scope, and a long ribbed barrel.

The FA titanium mount is see through for use with irons, but they're rare, expensive, and FA specific

If you're just looking to use a dot I'd try the KOFN system. If scope, Alaska Arms.

If all you want is to switch from a dot to a scope, then it's easy to put a picatinny rail on the pistol and get QD mounts.


For low light and longer ranges, a scope makes a huge difference and is worth the drawbacks. 

Easiest solution is to carry two pistols, one with irons and the other optics. 

Can you post a photo of that see thru FA mount?

I have scopes and ultradots both and have not missed an ETHICAL shot with either because of low light. If its to dark for the dot or scope its to dark for open sights for my eyes [your eyes may be different]. Sometimes the deer just wins! Variable power scopes stay on about 2x until I need to turn them up. I have always had time to turn scopes UP AS NEEDED but NOT DOWN so keep it low till needed. My fixed powers are all 4x .
