They are still listed on their site, but navigating to them - or anything - seems flaky. Not sure what's going on with their site. Still listed on SSK's site too.
They do have a tab for "The New TC," but no products shown.
I've wondered if "The New TC" will have that much of an affect on the SSK50. The original Contender has a significant following and I could see there being enough of a market for both it and the G2, but don't know for certain.
Where did you see/hear that they were discontinuing the SSK50? Marty's blog doesn't seem to have been updated since September of last year and I've seen no e-mails.

Thanks. Did he say HE was discontinuing them or SSK was discontinuing them? I'll have to go to my ISP's site and see if they sent that e-mail to the junk folder.

Hello dear friends and valued customers,
We want to take this opportunity to wish you and yours a very Happy Thanksgiving. At the time of this writing, many of us are preparing for the first gun season. Ours begins Saturday, November 16th.
It was our hope to have something to report regarding T/C distribution of new products, but unfortunately, we do not have anything to share just yet. As soon as we do, we'll send out an update email/newsletter, We do still have some Omega muzzleloaders still available here. This also comes with a T/C scope base. As you can imagine, we are anxiously awaiting the restocking of our shelves with many T/C products.
Until that time, below is a snapshot of our current inventory. Don't see something you need or want? Give us a call and we'll see what we can do.
As you may or may not know, we have ceased ordering from SSK Firearms. We are still getting some of their products from one of our vendors that we've worked with for years. As a result, we have a couple frames available. Lynx and Flatside.
As always be safe and shoot straight,

Thanks for posting that!
I guess we wait and see how it shakes out. I personally will consider TC "back" when I see stuff shipping. Not to be pessimistic, but remember the start-up foibles with the SSK50.

The "New" SSK has been extremely disappointing. I bought from JD Jones for decades with extreme satisfaction. The new stuff, not so much.
I will say my two SSK-50 Frames are very nice and well built. But, reports from others on their barrels are not good.
I've not posted my latest experience on FA97 T'SOB Mount.
The mount was not built to the correct specs. I sent pictures to Lori, she quickly informed Bob.
A return call indicated that the whole batch of mounts were built incorrectly. Lori called me back and said Bob was following up with SSK.
I hope the Reborn TC will be of the quality Pre-S&W G2s were.
Waiting, hoping, praying...

I'd like a stainless flat side action before they go away, but something has to be up with their specs that MGM barrels won't fit SSK frames. It's a shame too, because I'm sure they had a ton invested in this project that'll never show a return and I always want to see domestic manufacturers succeed.

...but something has to be up with their specs that MGM barrels won't fit SSK frames....
SSK's response to this was.... unacceptable.
Their claim that the new SSK50 is built to tighter tolerances is fine, but if it precludes the original claim to fame of being able to interchange barrels, then the "tighter tolerances" thing needs to be addressed. OK, tighter tolerances is great except that it seems to defeat one of the the main attributes of the original - interchangeability.
Maybe, with today's technology in modern manufacturing, "looser" tolerances aren't even possible. I think that the people still making barrels to fit (most of) the original and G2 Contenders should establish the precedent for SSK to respect, rather than state that their new product is "better." If it doesn't work like we've all come to expect things to work, how is that "better?"
Who the hell cares if it doesn't do what the original did, which was a HUGE selling point??
I won't "blame" SSK, but I will say that I do NOT think MGM is doing anything "wrong," SSK needs to talk to MGM and work this out. I think VERY highly of both companies and I want BOTH companies to succeed and prosper.
I hope SSK works this out.
I have an SSK50 - one of the first to be made. It is a $^#&^#& to open with the brand new, unfired MGM barrel I chose to put on it. I dressed the locking bolts lightly and it still takes two men and a boy to open it. This is unacceptable.
I did put a different locking bolt spring in from a selection of high-grade spring stock, but I do not know the specifics on the spring, other that it's "lighter." NOW, it opens as easily as my other (original) Contender actions paired with new MGM barrels. I have yet to fire it, so I don't know if it will be OK, but I really wish the two companies would conspire to make this WORK.
I really love my Contenders and the MGM barrels I have are really first-rate stuff. I really, REALLY want the Phoenix of the original to succeed. In today's world of "newest/bestest, we really need this ONE old thing to GO. SO short a life of an amazing arm invented only in 1967 to fall by the wayside. I salute SSK for bringing it back. Please, let's not much this up.

Jeff, interesting information...
My SSK-50 Frames are easy to open and flawless with TC Barrels (also, Custom Shop).
However, Bullberry, Reeder and MGM Barrels are a no-go...period.
It's a small inconvenience, but not a problem. I have quite a few G2 Actions and those barrels fit those just fine.
I'd love to see SSK carry on. But, with poor customer satisfaction, it doesn't look good. There are widespread problems...

I can only answer for one of the new SSK barrels. It's an Encore .450 Marlin handgun barrel. I installed it on a brand new SS Encore frame. Fit is perfect and it opens and closes as it should. 100 yard groups with nearly anything is under an inch. I have heard of the problems with SSK50 so I didn't buy one. I have heard others praise them.

It is my understanding that Haus of Arms was supposed to be the exclusive dealer for the SSK50 frames when they were produced. As such they caught a lot of heat when SSK didn't deliver on time instead of SSK taking the heat. Once SSK started to get a few frames produced they started shipping to other dealers, shorting Haus of Arms on frames that were already pre sold to people. That's why it took them so long to fill the original prepaid orders. Sort of made Haus of Arms look like the bad guy, when they were really the fall guy, so they no longer carry SSK frames. I'm sure there's lots more to it but that's just my understanding of it. Son, grandson and I have 3 early engraved frames and 1 flat side frame. We have had to do minor tweaks to maybe 3 out of 30 + barrels we have used but overall pleased with what we have. Can't speak for any of the newer frames being produced now on barrel fit.

Haus of Arms has many SSK Barrels and dies on clearance at bargain prices.
Many regular offerings are out of stock or no longer listed.
MGM Barrels are no longer on the site or I'm not smart enough to find them. Either is a real possibility...
I'm hoping we see products from The Phoenix TC soon!!!
