Is there any reason why a hammer from a SW 442 or 642, would not simply drop in on a SW 37,or 637. I’m wanting a snag free hammer but do not wish to “dehorn” the existing one.

Trapr ***** Trapr.... doubt the pendulous “hammerless” hammer from a Centennial will clear the Chief’s Special frame. Barely out of my teens when I bobbed my first Chief’s Special hammer; made for a slick pocket pistol. Properly done, the spur is cut off, with a graceful convex arc on the back of the hammer----as opposed to a concave arc, which further reduces mass at the top of the hammer. You already know the drill to manually cock a bobbed hammer----trigger cock to start, thumb cock to finish. David Bradshaw

David,…..The reduced mass was my biggest concern, I’ve bobbed a hammer on a SW60 I have, and done so without issue to reliability. The 60 is just a bit heavier than I would prefer for a casual front pocket carry gun. I’m also considering simply going with a SW bodyguard, old style not the current polymer framed one. That would eliminate the need to bob the hammer, I just don’t know how the extra bulk of the hammer shroud would behave coming out of a pocket.

Trapr.... never cared for the Bodyguard, same reason as you. Was not aware of a polymer (plastic) J frame. Unholstered carry of the aluminum Centennial (M-442 & M-642 .38 Spcial) is easy. Whereas, to not sag, the more enjoyable-to-shoot stainless steel Centennial (M-640 .38/.357) wants a reinforced pocket or abbreviated leather.
It is my impression S&W incorporated much tougher aluminum around a quarter century ago. Early Airweights were notoriously prone to loosening within a 100 or 200 rounds. The concept was based on “carry much, shoot less.” David Bradshaw

Model 38 hammer is what you want for your 37/637. Small nub for a hammer spur. Enough to get a thumb on in a hurry but small enough to avoid snagging on pocket or clothing. Look at the hammer set up on a 638 that's the hammer you should try. It works.
I did that with a 637 and it solved the snagging issue. Goes in stock.
