So the Barranti holsters are looking very good to me. Now my new dilemma. I am really liking the strong side Hank Sloan. My other consideration is the cross-draw Northwest Mountain Companion. Opinions?

Well, I have a couple of Barranti cross draw holsters, as well as a few strong side ones, AND my chest rigs. (2) NW Hunters. I have a Simply Rugged rig, as well as my Diamond D Guide. By far,, Barranti is still top level. So,, figure out how YOU prefer to carry a handgun, in a manner to be comfortable to YOU,, and not cause any issues. But I have to ask,, why not JUST carry a handgun & leave the rifle at home??

If I'm going to do a strap, I also prefer a Sam Browne stud over a noisy snap.

Simply Rugged holsters are well made and not too pricey.

One possible consideration not addressed. Holsters made for 3 3/4" barrels will probably be a special-order kind of thing and from some makers pretty lengthy wait time. Holsters made for 4 1/2 inch (or thereabouts) are common as sin. There is ONLY 1 extra inch to get in your way and it could serve double duty for so many other guns. Point two. Big name makers defiantly have earned their reputations but lots of local guys, saddle shops and small business hide stretches also do great work. Probably no wait time and you won't cry big crocodile tears the first time you get a big ole scratch across it. Ask around at some of the local gun shops and see what might be close by. This one is a cross-draw by a guy local to me that I use for 3 1/2 and 4 1/2 inchers. Good materials nice stitching and a solid value. The hammer thong was added by me for security and is dirt simple. ]

I like a leather holster with a Flap to protect the Revolver when I fall. (And I will fall at some point)

With that short barrel it sound like a good candidate for a midride Thad Rybac xdraw.

I'm a fan of my Rick Bachman slipper cross draw for my Uberti 3.5" 45 Colt CMS El Patron. Nice holster in my opinion.

Check out the Barranti Outfitter. Simple rugged design, available for your gun, and you can add the option for both strong side and cross draw carry.

I just purchased a cross draw holster with red dot cut out for my 4 5/8" Ruger Blackhawk bisley from Freedom Arms but is hard draw from when in a tree stand with a safety harness on so it needs a new home. Freedom Arms charged my $195 but a guy could have it for $150 plus shipping. It has been worn one time and while it is for a Model 83 6" gun it takes my Full sized Blackhawk like it was made for it.

Opinions? Here is one of Doc's Hank Sloans. I will have to say it is one of my favorite holsters. This one is for a 4" N-Frame but he makes them for about anything that needs one. It carries great and when I need the gun in hand it is fast. He can do it with or without retention.

The story I heard is that Keith was originally responsible for the design - as he got tired of the hammer spur tearing the liner out of his coats. True or not, couldn't say. Good story though...

I spoke with Doc via email yesterday and ordered the Sloan. Looking forward to it. I carried the Ruger this past weekend in a strong side cordura holster under my hunting coat. Did not notice any issues with it in relation to my rifle when slung on my right shoulder.

Did not notice any issues with it in relation to my rifle when slung on my right shoulder. I have carried many times like that with no problems. But in warm weather, without the coat covering it, the rifle butt hits the revolver grip. I started carrying my rifles Rhodesian carry many years ago. Slung muzzle down, weak side. Off-hand in regular grip area on fore end. Very comfortable, hand always on the rifle. Slight lift with the gripping hand and shoulder shrug slides the sling from the shoulder as you bring the rifle to the front and strong hand to the grip as it comes to the shoulder. Actually faster than a revolver draw with practice.
