My 8 year old great nephew is having a great year! He has 3 large boar hogs and a doe already. He is doing all of his shooting with a ruger American 350 legend. 2 pigs were around 35-40 yards. Another pig and the doe at 90. 1 pig ran a short circle and went down about 15 yards. The rest were “bang flops”.
He ran fever most of the day yesterday, but he went hunting anyway in the afternoon and got his doe. And today his daddy took him to the doctor.
He may be just 8 years old but he is no neophyte when it comes to killing game. He had rather kill pigs than big bucks. That’s why we call him,”the hog wild kid”

Well the little rascal felt good enough to go back out yesterday…..and he and his daddy doubled up on bucks!
The little guy got himself a 3 point first. As they were getting ready to go look at it after a short wait, a nice 8 point showed up. After a short talk about it being illegal for him to kill 2 bucks in 1 day he pointed to the little 350 legend and said, “Then you shoot him!” So he did.
My Pop was with him when he shot a big boar. It was in no hurry to approach the feeder and the little guy was set up with his rifle clamped in a tripod pointed in the direction of the feeder. He begged my Pop to shoot it since he wasn’t set up for the shot it was offering. Pop declined and the boy was taught a lesson in patience. He is the same way while fishing. Never shows any jealousy and is always just as happy when someone kills or catches. He makes us very proud.
Oh, his little sister is nearly 4 hrs old and goes to pre k class. Her teacher had seen pics of her big brother on fb with some of his kills and asked her if she hunted. She replied, “No ma’am, I’m too pretty”! We are gonna have to watch her close!

Uh-Oh,, I see trouble on the horizon!

It just keeps getting better! With both of the guys now notching tags, my niece brings out her well broken in 7mm magnum and takes to her favorite stand. It just so happens to be the same one the 2 bucks were taken from earlier. A big buck gets by her on the pipeline not once but twice due to the fog! The 3rd time he wasn’t so lucky and the little momma got herself a nice 11 point!
Well the boy was ready for a big buck now! A change of stands showed him some does and a solid buck this morning but no shots were taken. Then yesterday afternoon he got his chance at 80 yards. His dad grunted to stop the buck. He took a shot and the deer ran! That hadn’t happened before and the little guy got nervous! A couple of papaws showed up and a nervous little boy was awarded his first racked buck after a short track! He just missed the heart but got both lungs. It was a 7 pt that didn’t grow one brow tine. And a fine buck it was.
I’m going to take time to learn to post pics!

I'm thinking the Great Uncle Brant's grin will last as long as the boys will.
