While I wait for Starline to decide to make 50-70 brass I figured I’d see if anyone had some they didn’t need.
Thanks!

I used 50 Alaskan brass cut down for my 12.7x44R Swedish Rolling Block. The Swede's version of the 50-70.

I used 50 Alaskan brass cut down for my 12.7x44R Swedish Rolling Block. The Swede's version of the 50-70. I was thinking 50AK or 348 but was worried about the difference in the rim size and the ejector on the Shiloh. They won’t finish this one until next spring but I want to get some brass before then. I have both 348 and 50AK brass around here. I could also cut down some 50-90 to get by. That may be the best option on the end. Nice shooting!

I know the fellow who sent this request to Starline.
I sent a request to Starline today for information regarding the probable backorder status on the .50 caliber family of brass cartridge cases. I received a very prompt response, but the news, sadly, isn't very encouraging.
********************** John, When 2020 hit and we went from caught up with a 95% in-stock rate to over 4 years backlogged, backorders dictate what we run now. Many of these slower sellers we have not run in a few years due to the backlog on popular calibers.
Unfortunately, even though we are catching up finally, the slower sellers like the 50-70 and 50-90 are still going to be a bit before we can get to them; it is not likely it will happen in 2024. The line they run on is still one of our busiest and we have a lot of backlog to get through on it before we can get to these.
Sorry for the shortages, we don't like these problems anymore than you do. We won't let up until the backlog is cleared however.
Thank you,
Sherry Customer Service

Doesn’t surprise me. But they have opened up back orders on the 50-90 so I’m hopeful the 50-70 will follow. I’ll touch base anyway just to add another name to the list of calls for a 50.

I went in and created an alert through Starline for when they do open up some of these orders. I'm guessing they pay attention to how many have placed back orders (volume of brass) as well as how many people have placed an alert for the ones that are not available. At least that's what I hope.

At least I know you’ll give me a heads up too 🤣 I talked with them this am as well. They did open the 5090 backorder. I ordered more of those a couple weeks ago. She told me this morning I also had an order for 5090 in from Sept 2022. 🤣🤣guess I’ll have plenty to make into 50-70 if I have to

I've called them a few times and they are always very nice. I get the impression people call them and yell at them pretty routinely. They seem quite gun shy and apologetic right from the start when you're asking about something that might not be available right now. At one time I really wanted to get my hands on some 348 brass but they've just not made it in a long time. A little bit of sugar goes a lot further than the vinegar when you're inquiring about the availability of one of their offerings. I'm sure they get beat up everyday over brass that's not available.

It doesn't hurt to let them know. After they initially said no to the 480 they reconsidered because of the amount from the little survey and made it happen. Unfortunately it would be hard to hand them a need for 50,000 pieces of 50-70. That is what it finally took on the .480.

348 brass will work, but it’s rim and head diameter are smaller. You can do it, but it’s a PITA.

I think if they opened it for backorder the number would add up quickly. Even the young lady this am said when the notification comes across, jump in fast because there is a lot of people wanting that brass. They haven’t made any of the 50s in years so people are looking everywhere
