No, I did not design the newest whizz bang tree stand for hunting. But, being in a tree stand was the impetus for the improv I found. My hunting gun this year is the short barrel 45 Colt bisley John Gallagher built for his nephew several years ago. I added a Holosun sight with the green chevron and since I did not have time to get a custom made holster I ordered a F/A holster for a 6" Model 83 with the red dot cut out. The gun slipped in it great and I figured I was good to go. That is I was good to go UNTIL I got to my tree stand, crawled into the ten thousand strap safety harness and crawled up the 20' to the stand. Once I got anchored in and sat down I came to realize that at my height, there is not a lot of "real estate" between my shoulders and waist when I am wearing a safety harness and a gun belt with a cross draw holster. My only option was to try and reach across my body with my shot right arm and shoulder, draw the bisley and hold it in hand with one hand and reach down to open the bino case on my chest to draw my binos and out use them with my left hand. As I'm setting up there with both hands full I recalled a post made here several months ago where Kim Ralston mentioned he does not use a chest pouch for his binos but a simple camera strap then slings them under his left arm so he can use his chest holster.
As I looked down at my open Marsupial bino pouch I decided to see what would happen if I stuck the little bisley in it. BINGO!!! In it slipped, the magnetic closing cover snapped in place and a classic Rube Goldberg solution was found. As soon as I got home I bought a $10 camera strap for the binos and the Marsupial pouch became my chest holster for whenever I am tree stand hunting. In fact, I like the arrangement so well that I decided this will be my standard carry set up even when hunting off the ground with this little gun.
