Some new old books

Wandered into a used book store today and found a few keepers.
















It's so interesting to read the older books because the perspective is based on what was current at the time.  The Kephart book was written in 1912 only shortly after the 30 U.S. 1906 cartridge had been introduced.  His take on trajectory of projectiles includes a lot of information about the new round compared to the older, slower and less aerodynamic rounds.  He correctly points out what a game changer this new bullet/round was at the time for the military and that the future is likely to hold great things for hunting rounds.

I can't wait to take an in depth look at the Winchester catalog!

WOW, you're mighty blessed to score those. I check thrift stores too, and have found a few good ones therewith. They are all great, but the Winchester one is the prize.

I lost a copy of Firearms, traps, and tools by Russell in a fire, I didn't read it in it's entirety but read several pages here and there and it was pretty interesting.

Those are some good ones, congrats.

I had two copies of Russell's Firearms, Traps and Tools of the Mountain Men but gave one to my BIL a couple years back since he's a trap collector. Russell spent 30 years researching and writing that book.

Rescuing old books, particularly of a loved subject, a fine pastime. I'd of had a hard time passing up those too.
