My wife just got done pulling a 3/4 in long by almost 3/16 inch wide bamboo splinter from my middle finger knuckle. I had already pulled two more slightly smaller splinters from the knuckle so three in all. Splinter went in the top and down the side to where I could not bend the finger. It required a set of needle nose pliers to remove. Its going to be a sore S.O.B tomorrow! Gun hand of course.

YEARS AGO I WAS CHANGING THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT TIRE ON A BUDDY's PICKUP (AFTER A SUCCESSFUL NILGAI HUNT). THE RANCH Vaquero (OUR GUIDE) HAD SET THE JACK AND I WAS REMOVING THE TIRE WHEN THE JACK SLIPPED AND PINNED MY RIGHT HAND BETWEEN THE FENDER AND THE TOP OF THE TIRE, ALL I COULD THINK OF WAS "oh shit that's my shooting hand". NO BROKEN BONES JUST A "crush injury" THAT HEALED SLOWLY.

When I was a kid I was fly fishing and I slipped walking across a sort of irrigation dam and skinned the hell of of my right hand. It healed up slowly nut just kept hurting, a month or so afterwards I remember having this long scab in the palm of my hand and it was sore, probably a bit infected I knew but I poked around one end with my pocket knife knowing there was some fluid in there and maybe letting the pressure out would make it hurt less. Well I no sooner got through the skin than a 1 1/2" long creosote soaked splinter came squirting out! No wonder it hurt and wouldn't heal...
Hadnt thought of that misadventure in many years...

I've done my share of bad moves, but that about tops any of my splinter stories. How in the world did you do that? Side note, you best keep an eye out for infection. That could get ugly I'm thinking. . .

x101 airborne and rjtodd I did it with Pure Skill and Ability, or pure dumb luck. To old to be crawling out of windows, even my own. I have a small patch of Golden Bamboo from pencil sized up to 2 1/2 in. dia. [10 to 30 feet tall] as a privacy screen. I was stripping a branch off of a plant and rammed my knuckle into the splinters from the fresh stripped node. Hurt about as bad coming out as it did going in. She's sore and stiff this morning but no red streaks yet. They say if you are going to be stupid you better be tough. If you are going to be stupid and OLD you got to be tougher. Still doing stupid things ONE DAY AT A TIME!!!!!!!!!

I HATE bamboo or any of the similar acting plants that fight tooth and nail any efforts to contain them to a specific location. An in going battle!

I was stretching barb wire fence at a friends place many years ago, putting the last turn on the post, when the fence stretcher let go of the wire. My gun hand was in the wrong spot and got sucked right up against the post. Tore the skin off my index finger and crushed the bone in the tip of the finger. I was wearing gloves and to this day I rarely do any work without wearing them, since they clearly helped limit the damage, a very painful lesson. Though, the most painful part was when the doctor gave me the big syringe full of antibiotics in my backside, yeoww! So now when I shoot poorly, which is usually always, I blame it on my still crooked trigger finger.

All farm-ranch people have a love hate relationship with barbed wire. It serves a purpose, but extracts a price for serving that purpose, always paid in blood. Got the scars to prove it. I keep the bamboo from expanding into the yard but let it run laterally in one direction along the fence. Just for the record it took some soaking and new cuss words to finally make a fist this morning. Its still tight as a drum and swelled this afternoon but it moves.

I sure hope you get better. If you "think" you need to go to the doctor, then you "NEED" to go to the doctor.
