This Smith & Wesson flyer was issued not long after they introduced their stainless steel model 60. Gun writer Terry Murbach took a 3" model 36 and added a adjustable rear and corresponding front and created his "trail" gun which was a neat little 38 Special J-frame. Eventually Smith & Wesson made a run of blue then stainless 38+P three inch full lug barrel adjustable sight 38`s. I was surprised at the 25 yard rested groups this gun made using Winchester 38+P LSWC-HP ammunition. Anyway, S&W makes the stainless version in 357 today and I feel a one gun person would be pleased with this J-frame... She`s a nice revolver....PS- I can`t think of the writer`s name responsible for his "trail" gun but have his article around here somewhere. If anyone remembers please let me know. Thanks

I always wanted one of those 38s. I know someone who has one, they feel better in hand than the 357s, and the 357s are rowdy little buggers. A blued one, I would be all over that

I have a blue Model 36-6, which is the gun you are referring to, I think. It was a Lew Horton special (or some other distributor's special) I believe. Having a "weakness" for the S&W Kit Guns, I always thought a .38spcl. model would be a real ticket; sort of a beefed-up Model 631, which is the .32 H&R kit Gun. Would post pics but can't do it on this site, don't know why.

Here’s a no-name conversion I have that was very nicely done on a M36. 5 shot .38sp j-frame with a 4” barrel. Really cool little gun and amazingly accurate… The 60-15 is a nice one too….

...have both a 60-4, like is posted above, and two of the .357 (pre-IL) 60-10s. Wonderful "trail" guns and my favorite for carrying while fishing and hiking.
One of the 60-10s just made a trip up to Maine this week as the "walkin' in the woods" gun...hardly know it's there. For ammo the Lost River, Buffalo Bore or Underwood 158 hardcast or HP +P that replicates the original .38-44/High-Speed loads at about 1100 fps from a 3" barrel is very controllable and penetrates deep...

Years ago, with help from Dave Clements I put together this adjustable sight M31-1, .32S&W Long. It has the original 4" barrel and Roper type custom grips. All hand polished and rust blued. I call it my 32-32 Kit Gun. One of a kind.
Dave Clements Pre-war type adjustable sight installed.

Thanks for the good vibes. I've always found he .32S&W Long to shoot well in fixed sight guns and it seemed like a natural. Clements had stopped making his pre-war sight but gunmaker to gunmaker he agreed to make this one for me. I believe it could be done with a J frame modern sight? But the Clements sight is too cool~ The revolver shoot great and looks killer with baby Ropers and rust blue. Thanks again~~
With Sanderson Target grips and a nice target ~ wadcutter ammo, 5 shots before sight adjust.
