Do any of you use a 28 shotgun for hunting? I have used them on Turkeys with TSS and dove with field loads. I got rid of the Franchi 48-AL and am down to just a Yildiz O/U (cheap but surprisingly well made) but really want another auto. I am looking at the Benelli SBE3 and Ethos or a Beretta A400. Anyone have any experience with any of these even if in another gauge? After handling them I am really leaning toward the SBE3

I have a FAIR Iside SxS 28ga. It's a delight walking long miles looking for partridge and woodcock with bismuth handloads. Have no experience with any autoloaders newer than an 1100.

An yes! A 28ga shotgun is the “38spl” of shotguns as far as recoil and use. VERY effective and easy on you, but a bit expensive to buy these days. I still want one.

WHY DID YOU GET RID OF YOUR FRANCHI? I REALLY LIKE MY FRANCHI 28 ga. AUTOLOADER A friend wanted it for his kids so I sold it to him. They still use it so he doesn’t want to sell it back to me. It is a heck of a gun, it is a Ducks Unlimited Deluxe version. If I could find another one I would probably buy it.

I have owned a couple, SxS and O/U, and saw nothing that my 20's delivered better with cheaper ammunition so they went down the road.

I have a Benelli Ultralight in 28 gauge at just under 5 lbs.
It's pretty sweet.
I imagine another half pound in a SBE3 wouldn't make much difference, unless it's in the end of the barrel to help with the swing.
I think the trick to using a 28 is either load your own or stockpile it deep when you find a good deal.
20 and 16 gauge aren't especially cheap at the moment either, so anything smaller than 12 ga is gonna cost you.

For the money the Browning Model 12 20 gauge or 28 gauge is absolutely fantastic. It's not what you asked for but I love that platform.

Got a couple of tubed stack barrels (skeet n sporting guns) and almost bought a Beretta 686 in 28 (small receiver).
Never tried a 28ga Jamomatic. You won't get a quicker re-set than a stack or sxs shotty. I'm also rounder than I used to be and trying to find 28 hulls is paramount with shooting this gauge. I reload them until I'm missing a petal in the crimp. Universal is my powder of choice.
Recently picked up a Tri Star 410 SXS 26" with chokes and EJECTORS.

I have been picking up a couple of boxes of shells everytime I go to Walmart at ridiculously low prices. I hate That Walmart but can’t beat the price. I now have quite the stockpile

I have some experience with a Montefeltro. Based on that, I’ve been lusting after an Ethos 12g. The Benelli system is just outstanding.

My favorite shotgun is a 28 gauge LS frame 870 Express. When they came out I wouldn't pay the premium over the 12 and 20. Years later I decided I couldn't live without one. I started hunting for one but they are scarce. I found a brand new one 10 years after they quite making them. I payed through the nose for it. I have killed doves, turkeys and ducks with it. A joy to shoot and carry. I have a n extra barrel with the rem choke for turkeys. Just an awesome gun.
