I have several ideas running around between my ears for another wheelgun. I was going through my holster collection recently and I realized that it sure would be awesome to go deer or hog hunting and carry the Lone Ranger's appearance holster or Elmer Keith's holster for a single six. The Lone Ranger Holster was built by Hunter for the other Lone Ranger (John Hart) to carry a Single Six. It was built in 1958, after his time as the masked man but he did a lot of public appearances. Hunter built the holster and a belt to hold it with a cool twist. While the holster held a Single Six the cartridge loops were made to hold the "silver bullets" that he handed out during appearances. At some point in time the gun, holster and belt were separated. Last year I tracked down the gun simultaneously with the gun owner tracking down the holster. They won't sell me the gun, I won't sell them the holster and neither of us knows where the belt went. Hunter wants the holster and knows the history of it but I won't sell it. The gun was custom built by order of Bill Ruger to look like the SAAs he used on the show. It is a dolled up Single Six. A friend of John's told me that the rig was built to be much lighter when making appearances. He told me that John used the holster with a plain Single Six while riding his horses. He said he shot snakes from the saddle. I have carried it out plinking a few times with my 1958 Single Six. It is just cool. I don't know much history on Elmer's holster. Brian Pearce bought it at the auction and I bought it from Brian. I strapped it on and went plinking with the same 1958 Single Six. All of this to get where I am going. I have seen several center fire converted Single Sixes posted here. I am a hard core handgun hunter and love handgun history as well. From those of you that have converted Single Sixes what can you tell me about them? Do's and don'ts? Which cartridge?
