Thinking pistol scopes and their manufactures , got me to google Nikon scopes. Found this “The Nikon contraction is completely about internal politics rather than consumer preference. They are trying to expand binocular sales in Europe and association with guns causes problems in some types of shops over there.“

I believe they stopped making optics for firearms about four years ago. Considering the long tradition of hunting across Europe, I'm somewhat suspect of the notion that birdwatchers in the Mother Land felt queasy about Nikon optics due to their association with firearms. More likely, Japanese citizens saw Nikon's association with American gun culture morally objectionable. In Japan, public preference is for tight government control of firearm ownership.

SUCKS TOO!! NIKON made some great scopes for the money!! They were my choice, both ProStaff and Monarch lines, without going to high dollar names like Night Force. I wish I knew it was coming….I would have bought a small stack of their scopes. But, now when I need a scope I tend to go to the Leupold Freedom line. When I don’t need a Night Force.
Id like to have/try a Nikon pistol scope. Right now I only have Burris on my scoped pistols….TCs

The Nikon Monarch Gold scopes were just that... GOLD. I knew they stopped a while back but I sure miss those.

Put a Nilon 2x pistol scope on mt Freedom Arms M83 .44 Mag after Jim Stroh re-barreled it with a Shilen 10” with 1:16” twist. The Nikon has 1/4” micro-click adjustments which, I was told, were designed to eliminate the backlash prevalent in numerous “micro-adjustable” scopes. To shoot tiny targets with a revolver over an extended course oat distances of 50, 100, 150, nd 200 meters should drain the cockiness from any shooter. Especially with a bit of wind mixed in. If anything proves a revolver bullet is not a rifle bullet it is Wind x Distance against quarter-size silhouettes.
Shooting the Stroh Freedom Arms .44 Mag from the Creedmoor position----gun must be visibly clear of the ground, no artificial rets----and loading the Sierra 240 JHC (Jacketed Hollow Cavity) over 23.4/H110 in Federal brass with Federal 155 mag pistol primer, the revolver recorded back-to-back 39x40 on the iron miniatures. 2x is less than ideal magnification for this enterprise, yet preferable to adjustment backlash parallax.
Another discontinued scope, the excellent Leupold 2x EER (Extended Eye Relief) employs friction adjustments, which, once set, do not shift. However, without accurate clicks, friction adjustments are impossible to count up/down, and left/right. David Bradshaw
