Pulled out a 3, 4, and 6 inch 629. Ammo was a 200 Grain HP Hunting load by Georgia Arms.

No surprise on the averages being higher than the one below or above the 4", the SD of the 3" (throwing out the 1283) is the best, followed by the 6", the worst the 4". That's a surprise.

Shows the 3 inch still isn't exactly a slouch. Not the optimal perhaps for deer hunting but for personal protection in a carry gun, quite potent, compared to other SD choices.

Of course every revolver sings it's own song, my experience is that there is normally a pretty good improvement in performance at the 3" mark over the lesser lengths. I like the 3" length more than any other generally.
