New 22WMR

I haven’t been able to work up a cast bullet load to replicate 22wmr performance in my 22Hornet so I got a new CZ 457.  It’s been several years since I had a 22mag but I used to have good accuracy with the Winchester 34gr Supreme and 40gr hp Super X but reading recent post about 22mag accuracy I see lots of complaints about Winchester quality and accuracy.  Any suggestions on good all around use load to start with before I just buy a box of every load and see which this rifle shoots best?

I would love to be able to help but I'm in the same boat you are except that I haven't yet decided on a 22WMR rifle, so I would be interested in rifle suggestions as well as good all-around loads. I haven't looked at the CZ 457 since I'm very partial to stainless, but I'll check it out.  I've had good luck with the Federal 22WMR 50g JHP small game load in my Single Six revolver, but I've never tried it in a rifle.

Like any rimfire results seem quite rifle specific.
Trying them all is the only answer I know.

I shoot either CCI Maxi-Mags or Winchester in mine. CCI has been more consistently available over the years so I have used that more often the last several years.

I attempted to load 50 grain bullets in my Hornet until I woke up and realized how foolish that effort was with a 16" twist barrel  So, instead, I focused on trying to replicate 22 mag loads in the Hornet.  I found that .218 bee bullets and other FP bullets worked nicely.

For velocity, I load with Lil Gun powder.  For reduced loads, Unique or 2400 work well.

My favorite 22wmr’s have been the Ruger 77/22 Varminter with the heavier barrel and laminated stock, also the Ruger American and my current favorite is the Brno ZKK 611. All give 1” accuracy out at 100 with Win 40gr JHP, which is my favorite all around load. The CCI 36gr. Plated HP does almost as well but is more destructive and works better for Jack rabbits and such. The Win 40gr. Is great for Fox, coyote, and bobcat, also does well on braining feral hogs.

I like the Winchester super X, they work great on game and are extremely accurate for me.
