Would there be enough room in the cylinder to rechamber to the .356 GNR? I know you don’t want to do that but asking for a friend No, definitely not enough meat in the cylinder for that. That's why FA goes to a 5-Shot Configuration for 41 Magnum. Thanks Huey. I kinda thought about that after I asked. I forgot the 97 in .357 is a 6 shot

That's pretty good velocities for 38 special, when are you going to try #9, probably gain some , if wanted, great buy Huey, and agree, the scope would be a nice addition According to Brian Pearce's Data, AA #9 will produce about 100 fps more than 2400. But, I don't care for the muzzle blast associated with it and H110/296. I may try some to satisfy my curiosity. But, will likely stick with 2400 for most of my needs.

H110 does have severe muzzle blast, but #9 seems have less than 2400 to me, it's also flash suppressed,at least the recent #9, don't know how long you've had yours though

So....following Trent's suggestion and Brian Pearce's Data, I broke out the #9.
12.5 grn 1315 fps 13.0 grn 1410 fps 13.5 grn 1470 fps
ES was definitely higher, but so was velocity compared to the 2400.
No excessive pressure signs. Case fell out of the chambers without using the ejector.

How was the accuracy with the #9?

How was the accuracy with the #9? Haven't shot either for accuracy. Just finished scoping the gun. I'm going to try both loads at 25, 50 and 75 yards after I get it sighted in. I'll definitely report here!!!

Ended up mounting a Simmons 2x Scope. These scopes are tough and have a great sight picture.
Base is an SSK T'SOB and rings are Warne.

I think you advised me on those scopes once. I have picked up a few and have been happy with them.

The Gun Shoots!!!
I started testing the #9 Loads first. They were the last I chronographed, so my powder measure was already set up.
From a solid rest, groups at 25 yards didn't get measured. One ragged hole as expected.
At 50 Yards, groups were 1.25-1.3". These were very consistent.
At 75 Yards, groups were around 2" and also very consistent. Groups did drop about 4" from the 50 Yard groups.
I'll clean the gun later and test 2400 another day.
I'm very satisfied as the small FA97 isn't as solid on the bench as a bigger, heavier revolver.

A local store has some 4#ers of Acc 4100 right in that same burn rate neighborhood. Really want to try some but 4 pounds is a bit much for a trial.

#9 and it's twin, Shooter's World Heavy Pistol are my go to powders in 357mag. For 38/44 level, my most accurate is 12.1gr 4227 under an MP 358-640 penta hp bullet (161grs) for right at 1000fps from my 4" Service Six and 1120 from the 6-1/2" Blackhawk. Groups about 2-1/2" standing offhand at 50yds from the SS, but that's my issue with the tiny fixed sights. Deadly on coyotes and other pests.

If you shoot 45C Ruger-only, 44mag, or any of the big bores, it's a great magnum powder. Exact same powder as Enforcer. It's pretty good in 357mag, but never tried it in 38/44. It's a favorite in 500L with 410gr bullets and second choice for 500L 525's using published loads.

I'm not saying my "Shooting Collection" of FA97s is complete, but it's getting close.
From 17 HMR to 45 Colt, I'm missing the .224-32 FA, 32 Magnum and 9mm.
The 9mm is a waste of money for me. If I added the cylinder, it would never be used in a FA97. I do have a 6" Taurus 9mm and like the caliber. Just not in a FA97.
Nor, can I justify a 32 Magnum. Great caliber, but it can't do anything a 327 Federal can't do.
As far as the FA Wildcat goes, it would probably be awesome. Maybe something to think about in the future.
I'd eventually like to have a Custom FA97. Maybe buy a used 41 Magnum and have it rechambered/rebarreled to 44-40?...
