Are you in the messy zones, too, Ken?

My sincere thanks for all the kind words, wishes and prayers. I had to chuckle at sixshot’s comment about me surviving. I do want to correct him a little bit. I’m not a Vietnam veteran but just post Vietnam. My brother is a did 2 tours there. We finally got power back Wednesday night but still no internet and cell service is very limited. I’m still having to go about 4 miles from my house to post stuff. Gonna head home in a few minutes so thanks again everyone.

Are you in the messy zones, too, Ken? No, Hickory has some trees down, and high water. A little flooding in low areas. My family lost internet, phones, etc. but power was maintained. Very fortunate.

Driving 4 miles through a disaster area to post stuff in this forum should earn a new "level". Something like El Presidente or such....

Glad to hear you rode it out and are in good shape. What an unreal mess. I saw pics of the view of I-26 from just north of the Blue Ridge crossing and was shocked. Wow.

Driving 4 miles away from the devastation was not bad. I’m still having to drive it to get internet signal. And trying to do stuff on my phone is not easy. We are also lucky in that one of the bridges that we rely upon that was damaged, is back open a bit. Still no way to travel west out of here on either of the two main roads. But we are slowly getting stuff restored and repaired.

Regarding internet signal.
For 35+ years I've had a Tracfone as my emergency use only phone. Everywhere I've traveled and had difficulty with AT&T, and T-Mobile including post hurricane outages, my Tracfone has worked.
This is because Tracfone and others like Consumer Cellular buy time from whatever towers are available. I wouldn't give up Tracfone for anything. I buy a year of "minutes" package (Phone, text and Data) for ~$110 and it's been a GREAT investment, and something to consider for many.

I've done the same thing for years with Tracfone and it's worked out nicely. I do the one year package as well. Tough to beat for around $10 a month. Their customer service leaves something to be desired if you have a problem, but they are great emergency phones. They were recently acquired by Verizon so I've been watching to see if they change anything, but so far I haven't noticed much difference.

Ya, I think when the Viet Cong heard you had enlisted they started shutting it down.
