The latest adventure. I decided that since the BFR 475 Linebaugh was shooting ragged holes at 25 yards with heavy full power loads, I decided to scope it. Since handgun scopes are in short supply and I didn't want to get into my spares I decided to stick one of the Crimson Trace Brushline scopes on it. If it doesn't hold up I have some new Leupolds put back. Mark Hampton had a 454 BFR and used the same Magnum Research base and the same Weigand rings. I figured if it held for him it would hold for me. After installing the scope and leveling it I carried it out to get it on paper. With the elevation at the end of its range it was still way too low at 25 yards. I tore it apart and shimmed the rear of the base. Since the first ring in front of the turret is up against it, the power adjustment ring is only the thickness of a piece of paper off of the base. While I had the base off I cut a radius on the back of the base to give the adjustment ring some breathing room. I re-centered the reticle. It worked out so that I drilled holes that caught the rear screw holes to hold it in place. I will run to the shop shortly and load some more Ammo to get it rolling. We shall see.
Part 2
Mission accomplished. At 25 yards you can hit a tic tac with it. I have it adjusted low at 25 to compensate for the mounting height of the scope. I was planning to go to the 100 yard range today with several guns but it keeps raining in blasts. I had to do this with it sprinkling. Once sighted in at 100 yards I will be able to measure the stadia in the reticle and work out holds past 200 yards. I changed my mind on the load to shoot it with for now. This is the Hunter Supply 412 grain over a stiff charge of 300-MP running a bit over 1400 fps. That shot to the right was a flinch after busting my support hand knuckle by being careless. The rest of that cylinder went into a ragged hole as you can see. This thing isn't for everyone. The recoil can best be described as "spirited." Felt recoil is worse than a X frame 500 with its comp. I consider the recoil to be instant gratification. The optics are pretty decent. If this one holds up I will probably snatch up a few more of them.
