I have mentioned in another thread entitled “Tomorrow” about getting to spend a couple days hanging out with Dustin Linebaugh and his family and getting to play around in his shop. Playing around includes such things as walking by the full size mount of the grizzly he shot at 176 yards with his 475 bisley Vaquero, getting to handle that same gun along with one of his dads early Big 45 Seville conversions built just like Ross’s Buffalo Seville and getting to have him go over a set of grips I took for him to critique that will go to one of our fellow members. Which by the way he made a suggestion on and asked if he could make a tweak to and I naturally said “have at it!”
One if the other things we played with was one of my projects that has been a long time in the making. We looked at the special barrel mounted in the main frame then Dustin pointed out his after working over the main frame he felt that there was just not the right contour so the search for a new frame was undertaking. That new frame was there on the bench along with the cut and reshaped bisley grip frame so we got to fine tune cleaning up the grip frame contours then we decked the grip frame. After decking the grip frame was installed on the main frame and the next issue was addressed. Like on many Rugers the interface between the main frame and the vertical parts of the grip frame are less than perfect. In this case the main frame was about .008 shy of the contiguous lower section of the grip frame so after getting this measurement, back to the mill machine and a series if light passes on the surface of the grip frame until this .008 was gone. The result, a parts interface undectable to the eye of fingernail.
Next was checking to see if the cylinder he had build for the first frame would work on the new frame but that will be for the next post. The grandson just challenged me to an arm wrestle match and first things first!
