Hey pistoleers and riflemen : another day glad to be here... just traded for a 45 70 sharps replica looks like a pedersoli if it is imported by stoeger sometimes.
Questions :
Rear Sight : it has the sliding "mid range or short range " sights and they are mounted in the same place as standard sights on modern rifles are sighted. I am disappointed in this and would like to put the tang mounted sights on the gun, when I can afford some ( I have looked a few times and they seem expensive ) I am also concerned about placement affecting the integrity of the tang to stock tightness and the sight movement causing it to strike the shooter on recoil.
Front sight : it has a silver leaf shaped blade front sight and not the target inserts. I am sure they will shoot just fine, though the arc of the sight is not the best for target front sights, and I would like to put target type sights with the inserts , peeps, crosshairs etc in the front sight.. again I would like to know about price and installation considerations.
I am wondering at what kind of general yardages will I run out of adjustment with the short range sight in place.
I am wondering whether it is really a more effective sight to have the hooded front sight rather than the sporter type curved silver sight that came with it..
Are there various acessories that will fit this gun ? or is it that all of them will be a compromise of fit and reliability ? I hope not, cause if it is all a compromise I will probably have to explore whether it is worth it to make any changes and how well I should expect it to shoot as is from the factory.
Also one last question please provide a listing of various inexpensive and not so inexpensive sources for the sights, both front and back and what the differences are etc.
thanks to all .
