RONNIE: FOR A BFR IS THE BB5 AN EASY SWITCH OUT? DO YOU HAVE A RUGER BISLEY GRIP FRAME FOR A BFR? Some people really like the Ruger Bisley. But I would recommend against it in the heavy hitter BFR chamberings if you are going for a Well's frame anyway. The +4° frames will save your knuckles and Ronnie shouldn't have a problem making one for a BFR. He already has the dimensions. A standard shape Ruger Bisley will eat your knuckle on a big kicker. Even max loads under 525's are easy to control with the BB5 frame on a Blackhawk, so the extra mass of the BFR will make it easier.

I got my BFR 500JRH as a 50AE on Gunbroker many years ago. This was before they offered it as a standard chambering, so I sent it back for an extra 500JRH cylinder and opted for a shorter octagon barrel at the same time. The top one was a 50AE when this picture was taken. They now have the 2Dogs / Fermin Garza front sights on them.

I went a similar route. Bought a .500 JRH from Buds, chopped the barrel to 6.0", added a 2Dogs front sight, performed a trigger job, and had Jack reshape the gripframe. Now that Ronnie Wells is doing BFRs, you'll definitely want to consider his backstraps. -Lee www.singleactions.com "Chasing perfection five shots at a time"

What's your take on Ronnie's +4 degree versus a Bradshaw - as a knuckle saver?

I haven't shot the Bradshaw yet. But one with finger grooves is planned for next year in a 5-shot 360DW Blackhawk.

The custom shop revolvers are extremely nice, but piling on options can out pace the price of a Freedom Arms.
I'm saving my money for a nitrided 357 on the Keith #5 frame. $3600. Then it's going to Ronnie for a 360DW rechamber and a BB5 stainless frame that's going to need nitrided and some black micarta. Add in a Griffin Hill RMR mount and a Holosun 507c. Then some of Backcountry's (Big Bore) custom leather. Easily passes the cost of a Freedom Arms Premiere. But it's a whole lot more gun for the money.
Before any FA guys get their undies bunched, I already have a Premier Grade FA 353. It's amongst the finest I own. But the BFR bas more meat in the frame, thicker barrel tenon and a larger cylinder diameter. This BFR will see the maximum the 360DW can achieve before I have the currently considered 10" barrel cut back some for comparison.

Patience will be rewarded. I am sure BFR will release another batch of 500 JRH's in the near future.

I’m going to wait to a 5.5 inch version becomes available. In the meantime I’m getting my mold/dies etc ordered. Thanks for the help.

A good mold to start with might be the Lee C501-440. If you are going to load top end stuff, then the Gas Check is not a bad idea. But if a 400gn @ 1250 is more what you are looking for, then a plain base bullet would do just fine. For load data, you can look at the 500WE. I think the charges listed are identical to the JRH. When I got mine done, the rim recess in the cylinder was cut to accept 500S&W rims incase you were using cut down cases. I'm not sure if they still do that or not. I have used cut down 500S&W brass and regular JRH brass and couldn't tell any difference.

The BFR will accept cut down 500S&W brass.
