Some history first. When we previously lived in Alaska I owned a BFR 500 JRH that was modified by JRH. Then we decided to move out so I sold it. Realizing my mistake I made it a project to get another. Purchased another BFR with the Bisley grip as it was on sale (another mistake). Then gave JRH a call and he told me there was not enough grip material to work with to convert to his style grip. So revolver was sold and then found one with the old style plow handle. The revolver was then sent back to the factory to have an action job and a wide spur trigger installed. Then it sat in the safe for about a year. After some soul searching we decided to move back to Alaska, not an easy task with me being 71 and wife 66. This motivated me to get busy with the project so the revolver went to JRH. Requests were: Shorten barrel to 5.5 inches measured from the front of the cylinder Add a front sight that has replaceable blades Modify the grip White micarta grips. I am pretty pleased how it turned out.

That looks like a proper gun for an Alaskan, I’m sure Jack was happy to reunite you with your project.

My packing 500 is a BFR in Linebaugh's 500 for bigger and heavier bullets, same 5-1/2" with the Blackhawk hammer and action job as yours, but I prefer the recoil taming factory Bisley-ish Banana grip wearing buckeye burl from Chigs and it's wearing a 2dogs all brass long-range front sight. The only other improvement I can want is for Ronnie Wells to start offering the Hager BB5 in stainless for it so it will look as good as it shoots.

I am now the temporary owner of three BFR's. All with different grips. One of these days I will make a range trip and shoot all three to compare the grip/recoil. The JRH style grip in 500 JRH 475 Linebaugh with factory Bisley grip 45-70 with factory plow handle grip.
