The .357/44 was a hot little cartridge. The only knock I've heard is the polycarbonate sleeves tend to split after a few firings. We've built a few .357 Bain & Davis' and never had a problem with case setback. The trick it to wipe down the cases and remove any oil from the chambers. We also cut our chambers tight and that seemed to help too. So much so, I skip the case wiping and brake cleaner in the chambers. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Chasing perfection five shots at a time"

I've had a 357/44 Bain & Davis since the early 90's. I had the 9mm Cylinder converted on my Ruger convertible. I also have a S&W 27-2 that was converted. Case set back can be a issue. You will need to lube the cases during sizing and cut the brass back to OAL.

Man, that article brings back memories. That issue of Guns and Ammo was one of the first I ever read as a kid. Thanks for including the link!

I had an extra Redhawk cylinder converted to 357B&D. Were I to do it again, I would have had the reamer match the die rather than trying to make a die match the chamber. Currently if I go through a arduous loading process of fireforming and neck sizing, keeping chambers immaculately clean, I can get to about midrange H110 loads that Lee Martin has posted without setback.

JACK HUNTINGTON CLAIMS THAT HE CAN MAKE THE 357 B&D WORK (ELIMINATE SET BACK ISSUES) WITH HIS PAT PENDING BARREL PROCESS.

I can make it stop too. Sell the B&D and buy a Maximum. Worked perfectly when I did it.
