Robb sent me a set to look over. Said these were most likely the second set he had ever made. I removed the packaging and just stuck them on the gun. Look pretty good. We've all heard the cautions about variation in Ruger stainless steel grip frames. This is my stainless Old Army. A little jiggling and they'd fit even better. Love the flat bottoms. Helps me understand that I don't have to have a Bisley grip frame on every single action Ruger I own to be happy.

I don't think it's only Ruger, AFAIK I can't buy an off the shelf set of wood grips for my Freedom arms or BFR's either.

I think it was Taffin raising money for someone, sold me a set of Rowen FA97 grips. I knew they'd need re-fitting, but I did not expect them to need as much work as they did to fit my gun. So no, it's not just Ruger and if anything off the shelf fits great it's pure luck. I like the profile of these RBB grips. You really get a sense of how they'll feel looking at the back strap of the grip frame.

That's why I haven't bought a set of ivories for my Service Six. I want them, but worry about the fit, especially since they cost double what the gun did!

If you want that exquisite fit simply send the frame to the grip maker! When Zane did my Single Seven Dall Sheep he asked me to send him the grip frame.

NC Ordnance is the only place I know in NC with REAL elephant ivory right now. They don't fit to your gun in-house. They only sell pre made grips. Thanks to Obama, you can't sell elephant ivory across state lines anymore, so they're it for right now. I could always fit the frame to the grips, but I don't have the time for all my projects already in the works now.

Unfortunately, those grips were made to fit an aluminum grip frame and like Stan mentioned, Rugers stainless grip frames are a whole different ballgame. I am dong a set right now for a gun that is going through Bowens shop and he sent me the main frame with the grip frame bolted to it and the grip frame as been decked. What a difference having both the main frame and the decked grip frame makes in how tight a fit you can get.
