My first kill were ground squirrels with a .22 revolver. I was young enough my Grandfather would drive me to the country and I would shoot squirrels.😉

Thanks for sharing, gentlemen. Fantastic imagery. Callshot might have the quickest ascension from small to truly large game I’ve ever heard of! Cheers.

When I was a kid, my aunt Betty used to carry a tiny little o/u 22lr derringer when we fished in west Texas. She kept it loaded with rat-shot loads as medicine for the water moccasins. I shot a few moccasins, and a carp or two. Those were my firsts.

I hate it when the fish & game tries to think for you and makes up weird rules. Several years back the Idaho f&g were proposing some new rules and were having a meeting at the state capital where people could go and discuss it... That was a few hours away from where I lived, but they did have a phone number listed, so I called. They were proposing a 50cal ban for hunting! The gentleman who answered the phone was trying to talk around the subject and told me that I didn't understand... I replied that what it seemed like they were doing was trying to get rid of the guys who use a 50bmg to shoot Elk from one mountain top to the next and then can't find a way to get in and retrieve them... He said, why yes you are right. I said if they banned all 50 cals, then there goes the 50-90 sharps... so just ban the big instead. As long as I had him on the phone I asked if we could add Handguns to the short range weapons hunts. I said they could limit it to straight walled cartridges originally intended for Handguns so they could keep the long range hand rifles out of short range areas. I argued that many big revolver rounds were essentially equivalent to a muzzleloader. He said they would think about it. It got added the next year and the wording is almost exactly what I said on the phone, lol. Another thing they were trying to limit was the power belt bullets. He said you couldn't use them in traditional muzzleloader seasons because it was a sabot, and you have to use a full caliber bullet... I asked if he had ever used one, and he said no. I told him they were great and explained the gas seal on the base wasn't a sabot... I'm rambling again, good night.

Callshot went from being kind of a bad shot to being a really good shot the old fashion way, he shot & shot & shot until he got good at it. He earned it!

Scratched my brain a while on this one. I'm sure it must have been a gray squirrel. I'd think it must have been with a High Standard Supermatic Trophy.
(not counting pellets pistols and poor things us dumb kids shouldn't have shot)

I owned that Double Nine and an OLD Savage singleshot 12 gauge. Couldn't hit anything with that shotgun, probably choked extra full, but I could sure hit those quail with that revolver. These days I don't think this would fly.

First handgun? Either a skunk or a feral tomcat that needed extinguishing.
First revolver? Don't think I've done that. Hmmm....maybe I need to remedy that this deer season?

My first with a single action was goofy. I was plinking with my .44s at a local gun shop. Had Keith Special and Magnum loads. I'd probably shot 3-4 cylinders when I was hitting a steel torso at 30-35 yards with a 50th Anniversary Flattop Blackhawk. I fired 2 rounds of that cyllinder when a groundhog went mosying across the berm. Put one through the boiler room and the rest of the cylinder back on the target.
