The "timing issue" is a myth. The issue was with the shooter. Fanning a New Bearcat fitted with it's .22 mag. cylinder can result in the rim-fire cartridges being "fired" prior to reaching the "battery" position. This permits a copper jacketed bullet to strike the end of the barrel instead of entering the forcing cone. Lots of dangerous "bullet splatter", which included copper jacket fragments, was the result. Carl Pretty tough to say the timing thing is a myth when what pretty much any 'fanner' does is create a timing issue in about any revolver the handler chooses to 'fan' with. Having said that,....it's all semantics. Shooter,....badly timed from the factory,....same result. Timing issue. How in the world did anyone prove that it was the shooters though? And a better question,....who has small enough hands to fan one of those little machines??

I don't know, I've never been any good at fanning, but the nagain I only tried it on a gun that was purpose built for it before I got my grubby little paws on it

The New Bearcats have a cute little "Super Blackhawk" hammer and no rear sight to maul a shooters hand. A very "fanning" friendly arrangement.
I've NEVER seen a Ruger single action with "timing issues". Oh, once in a while you'll hear of chamber to barrel misalignment but a timing issue? I read that as a "firing out of battery" issue and I've NEVER heard of such a thing on a Factory Original Ruger S.A.
I've discussed this with Factory personnel and will stick with my story.

Wasn't trying to be argumentative,... but I've seen comments from Bowen on that matter. The article made reference to an aftermarket cylinder being more correctly timed and he'd rather convert that to .22 mag than the factory cylinder because he'd rather have a .22 lr spitting at him compared to a mag.
Then there is my uncle's convertible that was a spitter from out of the box. No, he never fanned his.

Pretty sure those comments were about Mr. Quinn's bearcat, and IIRC, there were two factory cylinders involved, and Mr. Bowen just picked the better timed of the two to make into the mag cylinder.

The extra cylinder came from a pawn shop or similar,....it wasn't 'factory fitted' to the revolver.
