I did a bisley conversion on a blued blackhawk with a stainless grip frame. Has anyone else done this and nitrided or melonited the grip frame? I am looking for pictures / experiences with how it turned out.

I’ve nitrided rifle actions. It looks fine. I think the last ones I did were PVD and you can pretty Much pick your tint/color on those.

Look at the pics on the BearSpray thread,….my avatar gun. That entire gun is black nitrided, I really like the finish for a working gun.

If Bear Spray had better sights, I would consider it perfect for it's intended job. Unfortunately my eyes don't work with small fixed sights anymore. But if you can see them, that's a mighty fine gun you have.

But if you can see them, that's a mighty fine gun you have. The sights are actually not small. The current configuration of the front is a big wide fiber optic blade. Made by Recknagel. Since I knew I would need to regulate the front based on my loads I chose a cheaper and easier to locate Williams FO front until the height was settled, then ordered the appropriate Recknagel front. I now switch back and forth between two different fronts of differing color depending on bullet weight chosen. 400-430gr regulates with the shorter front and 450-480gr. regulates with the taller. A caliper, punch and vise allow me to center the front exactly without needing to run to the range after changing it out. Lately the shorter one stays in, since I now have another 500L set up for 485gr. bullet use. The rear notch is much wider than stock, but fine enough for accurate use out to 75yds. Message me an email and I can get you some pics of current set up. it is a favorite of mine. Trapr

Thanks for the replies guys. It looks like it’ll come down to who can do it locally and what the cost is!
