I think I have made my decision on which guns to start the season out with. I am going to run the S&W 16-4 .327 Federal w/Leupold 4X scope for use out to 50 yards (to start with) and an EABCO BF pistol in 6.5 BRM with a Bushnell Trophy 2x6 scope for anything out past that. Neither one has been blooded yet so hopefully we can get it done. I have not totally settled on what loads to use and neither one is a hard kicker and since I will be sitting in a pop up blind I will also get to use the new Ambush rest.

Beautiful guns. I’d be willing to bet that you will be the only hunter on the planet with that unique combination of hunting guns on opening day.

Thanks guys! I really want to take one with the S&W. I think I am going to try some .32 H&R wadcutters for squirrels just because I love this gun

The EABCO speaks to me...
The 16-4 has already spoken to me...

I think I am going to carry a 7-1/2" 357max this year for openers. It's archery season now, so my crossbow is up first.

THIS UPCOMING DEER SEASON I AM MOSTLY GOING 45 COLT, ALL 45 COLT HANDGUNS AT MY Lenaderos DEER LEASE (WHERE I CAN HANDGUN HUNT) AND PROBABLY A LOT AT MY Punta Del Monte DEER LEASE WHERE ITS RIFLE ONLY. FOR Lenaderos: A 12" FA MODEL 83 454 USING A 45 COLT CYLINDER (A SIERRA 300gr JFP @ 1,585fps), A 14" CONTENDER USING THE SAME SIERRA BULLET, BUT LESS POWDER, @ 1,460fps, and A 7.5" FA MODEL 97 45 COLT (LOAD TBD), and FOR Punta Del Monte A WINCHESTER MODEL 94AE 16" SRC TRAPPER USING THE SAME CONTENDER LOAD BUT GETTING 1,546fps IN THE CARBINE.

My hunting will start in Wyoming, pronghorn and possibly a cow elk if they are located on the ranch. Luckily cow tags are OTC and unlimited this year, so I can wait until they’re sighted. My FA 555, and JRH 414sm will take primary duties, with my XP 7-08 and XP 6BR hiding in the backpack just in case for goats. The 6BR will be left alone, when elk are on the menu, I still need to blood my 1936 Win.71, so it may go for a ride as well.

My starting out gun will be a little different than the past several years. Because me & some buddies have a little project in mind I'm going to use my 629 classic S&W & also a special bullet. I've had this gun for a long time & seldom ever shot it but this year will be different & I've been shooting quite a bit lately. I also put a 4X Leupold on top because the place I'll be starting out at will have shots that might test my old eyes, not sure. The only other thing I can say right now is that I won't be starting out with a cast bullet, that's way off the charts for me. My other gun that will be with me everyday is my 10.5" FA 41 magnum & I'll have a trusted 210 gr powder coated HP nestled in that beefy cylinder. If I have to get out around the 200 yd range it will come out of the backpack & take care of business. It's quart jar accurate if I get it on the Bog Pod or my pack. I will put the 2.5X8 Leupold back on it in the next few days, the rock chucks are gone. Dick

I have a 29 classic with a 2X Leupold, those guns are SHOOTERS! With a 429421 and 19.5 grs 2400 it's easily clay pigeon accurate at 125 yards. The same bullet and 10 grs of unique do just as well and feel like a 38spl. You'll bring home whatever you decide to shoot.
