I need some inspiration, meaning photos, for changing up my .480 Bisley. It's the standard 6.5" version and for whatever reason that barrel length and long ejector tube look odd to me. I'm thinking of cutting the barrel back flush with the tube. I'll remove and re-attach the sight base and blade shown below. It's one of Dick Thompson's posts and it works well for my eyes. I'm also thinking of getting a set of panels from Chig's grips. Always liked his work but don't have any in my collection. Again, any pictures of Lipsey's .480's or .454's with the barrel cut flush to the ejector housing would be appreciated. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Chasing perfection five shots at a time"

Thanks Gary. And to confirm....do both of those have the longer ejector housing which came on the 6.5" .480 and .454 Bisleys? That would give a 5.5" barrel that's flush with the end of the tube. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Chasing perfection five shots at a time"

Bowen has a picture of the work you're planning in his catalog under Basic Packages. It's his Perfected Bisley #3, about halfway down the page. Let's see if I can get it to link here... As an aside, Kelye may still have Keith style base pins available for the 480. Just a thought...

My barrel is 4 5/8" and the ERH is just under 4". The SN indicates that it's a model 00872 dealer exclusive but which dealer I do not know. I got it from a fellow that shot it a few times and decided to get an auto in 9mm. He gave me dies, a few boxes of ammo and couldn't get rid of it fast enough. My 5 1/2" .41 Bisley (bottom) has the same ERH of just under 4" as the shorter (top) .480.

Recall MWM cutting his 6.5" back to .480" which seemed pretty neat ! Need him for details.

And come to think of it, I have that exact front sight kit. I may go with that after shortening. Seem to recall that Ruger blades, to include Sixshot's, will work in the base since they pin in from the front. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Chasing perfection five shots at a time"

I love the look of the full length ERH on 5.5" barrels. They are just so crisp and clean looking with the uninterrupted lines the full length of the barrel. Attachments:

I went ahead and cut the barrel to 5.5" so it's flush with the ejector housing. Looks good and gun balances beautifully: I found a set of gray laminate grips which really match the frame. So many of the 480 and 454 Bisleys came through with poorly mated panels. I'm glad these fit better, plus I'm partial to black/gray laminate. Removing front sights isn't very easy. We heat them with an acetylene torch and knock them off with a punch. I drilled and re-attached the sight base with a screw. I have two 475 bullet designs I plan to use in the gun. The first is my 370 LFN with 13.5 grs of HS6. I also have a 445 gr LFN that'll get shot with a heavy dose of H110. I'll post targets once I do some work at 100 yards. 370 gr Martin LFN: -Lee www.singleactions.com"Chasing perfection five shots at a time"
